Note about Midweek Site Issues: Daily Kos problems this week included inability to open the site, inability to Recommend, inability to post or open diaries, diaries disappearing, inability to comment, comments disappearing, inability to open drafts, disappearing drafts, and probably more. Our tech geniuses worked nonstop and overtime for Readers and Gnuville to solve the problems, and we thank them (you)!
The crashings made many difficulties for two of our authors, arhpdx and niftywriter. Arhpdx posted a splendid Roundup on Tuesday, but few were able to leave footprints in it. (It’s never too late to Recommend.)
During the rough waters of a few days, single comments or rafts of comments would disappear all at one time. Various people posted the Welcome comment at least 3 times on Tuesday! niftywriter was unable to post a diary at all, although she had somersaulted tail over horns to create workarounds, assuming Daily Kos would come online for the Wednesday morning Roundup. Lots of work for both of them as well as the frustration and disappointment of not being able to uplift regular Readers and Gnusies across the planet. We waft the gratitude of our hearts toward arhpdx and niftywriter, and to those who missed Gnuville, like waves of grass rippling under soft African winds. ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤ ❤
Was your week more difficult because of the difficulties at Daily Kos?
WineRev’s Good and Goofy Notes
If we’re lucky and blessed, WineRev will mimeograph his G&G notes and stack them over there by the sweet and savory smorgasbord and beverage bar (as summarized in the poll). Scan and/or deep read his commentary and see what others went through, struggled with, and surmounted on this calendar day in past years. His G&G comments are mini Good News Roundups. When you're finished, leave his notes on your table or recycle them. You can find all his comments here, even today’s, once he posts it. Tech Talk: Sometimes I search for his trademark >>>.
Last week: A stunningly early Good Morning to 2thanks and to all the Gnus in Gnuville. Rascal the Cat is delighted I got up at First Yowl for feeding purposes and could care less about Daylight Savings Time…..but its EARLY! Sheesh. Being NOT a Morning Person I’ve learned to not believe things at first glance until the Second Coffee, but I have to say it was a bit unnerving walking in to the Gnuville Breakfast Brunch and Hair Salon. Yes, I am used to snips and combing at all hours, as well as the Nutrafol ad on continuous loop (“Nutrafol also makes my hair STRONG-er….” although, after protests from all the Gnusies on their “hair growth journey” the loop is down to once every half hour…...) But I was blinking a few times at the mid-1940s revival of the multi-plug permanent wave machine having been re-purposed into a green energy source, as 2thanks reports above. I sip my coffee and dive into my hot oatmeal with extra satisfaction, knowing that the combined efforts of the Gnus in Gnuville walking in solidarity on their Hair Growth Journey have provided the energy to cook my breakfast in an eco-friendly manner. Thank you for the diary and the Re-charging for the day, 2thanks!

- Load-More Workaround: On a desktop or laptop, to banish the Daily Kos Load More buttons, click this link, which opens the main Daily Kos page and shuts off the Load More buttons at the same time. You must Reload any open Daily Kos pages. After that, you’re good to go, but you may need to come back here and click that link again in a few weeks. Or you could click this link, which you can Bookmark or save to your Favorites. According to the DK Help Desk, the “Load More” option also resets the user back to the display of the old-style, React comments.
- Got a Daily Kos tech question? Let us know. No question is too basic.
- Solved a tech question recently? Please feel free to brag in the comments.

How to Resist: Do Something …
1. Dis-credit Bad Banks Day of Action Tuesday 3/21/23
I plan to attend an event near me which I found on this page. (Scroll down.)
The next big exclamation point in the work of TH!RD ACT to defund climate chaos is coming this Spring —
“And we need you to join us, on March 21, 2023!
Third Act has spent much of the last year collecting Banking on our Future pledges from thousands and thousands of people across America: pledges to move our money out of the big, dirty fossil-fueled banks – Bank of America, Chase, Citibank, and Wells Fargo – if they don’t move their investments out of fossil fuels. And we’ve learned more about how important this is: new data makes it clear that these banks are using your money to fund the climate crisis in a big way. If you have $62,500 in one of these banks, that amount loaned for pipelines, frack wells, coal, and oil exploration produces more carbon than all the driving, cooking, heating, cooling, and flying an average American will do in 6 months. In other words, your bank may well be the largest part of your carbon footprint.
Together with partners and with all of you, we’ll be collecting thousands more pledges to cut up our credit cards or close bank accounts, and we’ll deliver them in person to bank branches and headquarters in February. It’s an important step, but no one expects that pledges to move our money will be enough to change the policies of these behemoths. Chase alone has 75 million credit card customers, and over the last months has been moving backwards—not forward—in its climate commitments. [more]
2. Unhoused Veterans
When I see people asking for money at stop lights, I ask them if they are veterans and if they need housing, and if I get two yesses, I give them this phone number, 877-4AID-VET (877-424-3838). I think this information could be much more useful to them than my pocket’s folding money.
Veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk for homelessness can call the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 877-4AID-VET (877-424-3838). Visit the VA Homeless Programs website to learn about housing initiatives and other programs for veterans exiting homelessness. The VA’s goal is to create housing for all vets as a first step toward health and jobs.
3. Other Action Steps from Gnusies
Four of our Good News writers regularly post a panoply of fantastic action steps in every one of their Good News Roundups. If you don’t see a way to become active that suits your personality, your funds, or your time, please review their most recent diaries for many different options to volunteer and/or donate:
On Daily Kos:
We welcome comments in Roundups every day regarding:
- National or local Good News.
- Links, stories, music, videos, quotes, tweets. (No tweets or images of the saffron chlamidiot, please.)
- Your resistance activity.
In my Sunday smorgasbord Roundups, I especially welcome the following types of comments:
- Who won YOUR week?
- Questions about Daily Kos tech issues or our map.
- Good News Roundups and you.
- How are you resisting?
- How are you supporting Democratic candidates?
- Please let’s stick to Good News today, no mews or databases.
In the comments of all Roundups, we do not welcome Grammar Police or Debbie Downers.
Top Image: A detailed sketch of a gnu drawn in brown, green, and black on white. A happy and dynamic gnu dances on its left hind leg in a classic heraldric rampant stance. Joyful letters prance above and behind the mane: “Happy Dance.” Signature: Nick Korolev, 2021. — Thank you, Starhawk, for creating the top image of a dancing gnu and for giving it to us Gnusies!
Our Roundup is almost open!
Thank you for fighting for truth and justice with all us Gnusies! 40% of our Readers don’t visit every day, 50% of us do, and 10% are here for the first time! We all do what we can. For 5 years, we’ve shared positive news, laughed, organized, resisted, rebelled, revolted without being revolting, relied, rested, mentored, created, crossed rivers, chewed our cud, puffed methane out both ends, and laughed. Here’s looking at you, kid, and standing upwind!
As always, please share more Good News than I can find or provide.
This is a group diary, and by my power I declare this Good Gnus Salo(o)n open! Let the good-news sharing and community building begin!
Power with, not power over ❤️ ✊ ❤️
2thanks (he, him)
