The race for the Wisconsin Supreme Court took on a decidedly ugly turn. Fair Courts America, the conservative group that’s the main backer of the far-right candidate in the April 4 general election is running a wildly antisemitic ad. The group spent nearly $3 million on ads before last month’s primary backing extremist Dan Kelly.
Their first direct attack ad against liberal candidate Judge Janet Protasiewicz, accuses her of being lenient on criminals and “put[ting] our families at risk.” That’s running on broadcast media while they’re feeding voters this “issue” ad calling George Soros the “mastermind behind America’s crime wave.”
Can you help with $10 or $10 to Judge Protaseiwicz’s campaign to defeat hate and win back the Wisconsin Supreme Court?
Soros “dumped over $40 million into placing radical activists in our justice system,” the narrator says. Very subtle. “Today, 1 in 5 Americans lives in territory controlled by a Soros-funded prosecutor,” it continues. They left out “globalist” this time, but by now, every QAnon/MAGA-curious viewer knows what a conspiracy-theory-pushing source means when they say “Soros.”
The ad is being fed to the Facebook audience in Wisconsin and a handful of other states.
The Anti-Defamation League warned of the explosion of conspiracy theories about the Jewish philanthropist in 2020, calling them the “gateway to antisemitism.” If anything, the attacks specific to Soros have increased since then, fed by the likes of this group, Fair Courts, and the billions of dollars in dark money feeding it and the rest of the GOP.
That’s also feeding antisemitic violence—often specifically targeting officeholders—around the country.
That makes this race even more vital—the politics of hate and fear have to be defeated every time. Please help with your $10.
