I just received a fundraising call from the Democratic Governors Association asking for a donation, and I will give my thoughts about it, but I am curious about what others on this site think about giving money to the DGA (and, I suppose, the DNCm the DSCC, and the DCCC). She started off by, unless I misunderstood her (which is possible, because I answered the call while trying to work on something), overstating the number of governor seats up for reelection. Perhaps she meant in the current two-year cycle instead of during 2023. But in any case, she closed by asking for $125. And after Googling and finding only 3 gubernatorial elections this year, I told her that I prefer to give directly to candidates and, in any case, whatever the DGA and the DNC did last year in connection with governor’s races showed me nothing, since, other than Arizona, which was a toss-up, we only won governor’s race that, after the primary, the Democrats were clear favorites to win because the Republicans shot themselves in the feet by nominating nut jobs (like Michigan and Pennsylvania). So I told her that I think giving money to these groups just seems like a complete waste of money. Does anybody have a different thought about this? If so, I am open to the idea, but I would need substantial convincing that my current position is not correct.
