Theocracy, Authoritrianism, Fascism, Conservativism like a ocean stretch around us at the moment and at an instant can turn into hurricanes of oppression.
What is the effect of writing into your founding constitution that you are a majority <insert religion> nation?
What is the effect of a rising hard right wing conservatives of this same religion?
What is the effect of the leadership of such a nation if they are fearing legal actions for corruption and other crimes when they have temporary power to alter the judicial system and a religious hard core willing to protect them…
….I would say a Theocratic Authoritarian regime is likely (think Religious Fascism).
Israel, a country that in my opinion has been a de facto apartheid state since 1968, seems to be walking down that path to a Religious Fascist state as Netanyahu and his faithful supporters attempt to corrupt the judicial system (sounds familiar doesn’t it).

Today the violence and backlash against the right wing overreach to reshape the judiciary has shut down the airports, has the police out with water cannons assaulting the protestors, and has the religious right supporters of Netanyahu calling for suppression of their own citizens (seems familiar again).
“”The elections will not be stolen!” tweeted Likud Knesset Member Simcha Rothman, a key architect of the plan. "The people demand a radical overhaul of the justice system.””
-Washington Post <By Steve Hendrix and Shira Rubin>
This type of language is almost word for word what we have heard for the last four years from tRump supporters, often hard right evangelicals, as they succeeded in changing our Supreme Court. This type of overreach and hard suppression of anybody disagreeing seems to be the inevitable results of the marriage of Conservatism, Religion (conservative), and power (especially political)….this is yet another example of why we must have a large, solid, and high “wall of separation” between religion and government.
“One of his most extreme right-wing allies, Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir warned the prime minister by tweet not to “surrender to anarchy.” Netanyahu’s government holds a four-seat majority in the Knesset“.
Again this seems all too familiar, a bare majority (and often a minority) demanding to remake society in their image because. Again the arguments from the extremists to justify this type of power grab are all too familiar:
are needed because the courts have become too powerful at the expense of elected officials and are hopelessly biased toward the country’s left-wing elite.
Is this not just the Murican Right Wing Religious Zealots chant that we have heard for decades about not just the judiciary but also the media….even as facts before our eyes show the exact opposite.
As this power grab and move to an Authoritarian Religious state plays out in Israel we should reflect and prepare here for the same events…..our hard right religious community is no different in their quest for power over everyone as evidenced by the remaking of our courts and the imposition of religious dogma as shown by the Dobbs theft of abortion rights.
