A Jan. 6 rioter who admitted he was armed with a concealed gun during the attack on the U.S. Capitol was found guilty Wednesday of all nine charges he faced.
Christopher Alberts, of Maryland, was arrested with a weapon on the night of Jan. 6, 2021, after having spent several hours on the Capitol grounds. He was wearing a gas mask and a protective vest and had a backpack containing ready-to-eat meals and other materials, including bungee cords.

On cross-examination, Alberts admitted that he called police "domestic terrorists," yelled "y'all wanted war, you asked for it, you got it," and threw a water bottle at police officers' feet.

Statement of Facts
At approximately 1925 hours (7:25p.m.), I was assisting escorting individuals past an MPD line when I noticed a man, later identified by his Maryland driver’s license as CHRISTOPHER ALBERTS, to be slow in responding to orders to leave the premises. As I approached ALBERTS from his rear, I noticed a bulge on ALBERTS’ right hip. Based on my training and experience, I recognized the bulge was consistent with that of a hand gun. While pushing ALBERTS towards the line, I tapped the bulge with my baton and felt a hard object that I immediately recognized to be a firearm. At the time, ALBERTS was also wearing a bullet-proof vest and carrying a backpack.
At that point, I told two MPD officers next to him that ALBERTS had a firearm on his person. ALBERTS, apparently hearing that, immediately tried to flee, but I was able to detain him with the help of two other officers. A black Taurus G2C 9mm (Serial#AAL085515) was recovered from D-1’s right hip. Additionally, a separate magazine was located on D-1’s left hip. Both the gun and the spare magazine were in held in two separate holsters. The handgun had one round in the chamber with a twelve round capacity magazine filled with twelve rounds; the spare magazine also had a twelve round capacity and was filled with twelve rounds. MPD Officers also seized a gas-mask from the defendant’s person as well as the defendant’s backpack containing a pocketknife, one packaged military meal-ready to eat (MRE), and one first-aid medical kit.
The MPD Gun Recovery Unit was dispatched and ALBERTS was subsequently placed under arrest for Carrying a Pistol without a License, Possession of a firearm on Capital Grounds, Curfew Violation, Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, and Possession of a High Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, and was transported to 5D for processing.

A federal grand jury has added six new counts Friday in a superseding indictment against a Maryland man accused of entering the U.S. Capitol with a handgun.
At the time, Alberts reportedly told police he had the firearm for personal protection and that he “did not intend on using the firearm to harm anyone.”
A federal grand jury indicted Alberts in January on four counts, including unlawful possession of a firearm on Capitol grounds, carrying a pistol without a license and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
On Friday (5/14/2021), the Department of Justice filed a superseding indictment adding six more counts, including two counts alleging Alberts engaged in physical violence while in the Capitol building or a restricted grounds and one count of assaulting federal officers. Because Alberts is accused of being armed with a handgun at the time, each of those charges could carry 10-to-20 years in prison with a dangerous weapon enhancement.
His arrest directly contradicted Ron Johnson who said it wasn’t an “armed insurrection”...

Despite claims by Republican congressmen that the January 6 Capitol rioters didn't carry firearms, an indictment from the Department of Justice (DOJ) has alleged that one rioter did carry a "semi-automatic handgun" in the building during the riots.
The DOJ indictment accuses defendant Christopher Alberts of carrying a Taurus G2C semi-automatic handgun on Capitol grounds on January 6. The indictment also says he had a "large capacity ammunition feeding device."
The indictment's charges accuse Alberts of engaging in physical violence, entering and causing "disorderly and disruptive conduct" in a restricted building with a deadly weapon as well as possessing the weapon unlawfully. Alberts also stands accused of committing civil disorder and assaulting and resisting a police officer.
Despite the arrest and others like it, at least two Republicans have suggested that firearms weren't a part of the January 6 Capitol riots.
Alberts palled around with Guy Reffitt for awhile that afternoon...

(A)s he told a jury on Monday (4/17/2023), the entire time he was at the Capitol, he was armed with a concealed firearm and 25 rounds of ammunition, including hollow-point bullets.

To hear Alberts tell it, his entire day on Jan. 6 was a hapless accident — a mix of bad timing, attempts at heroic intervention to protect pro-Trump protesters and a rising fury at police for overzealous crowd-control tactics.

On his way up the stairs, Alberts encountered Reffitt, who was doubled over after being sprayed by police. (Last year, Reffitt became the first Jan. 6 defendant to go before a jury, which found him guilty of numerous felony counts. He’s currently serving a sentence of seven and a half years.)
Alberts said he became instantly fixated on Reffitt and concerned that the man might fall off the elevated railing he was perched on. Though he tried to get Reffitt to descend the staircase to safety, Reffitt continued to urge the crowd onward, Alberts recalled, saying Reffitt shouted, “Forward!”
