It was a bridge too far when Ted Cruz invoked the 1876 election and the end of reconstruction on J6 in order to complete the Coup. The Fox News tapes now put him closer to the original coup plot of 2021 as Jack Smith gets those recordings.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was the first of 11 senators who objected to the certification of President Biden's 2020 electoral victory on Jan. 6, 2021, as part of a plot that former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro called the "Green Bay Sweep." Navarro described the plan openly to MSNBC's Ari Melber in January 2022. And Cruz, one of the key players in the plan, discussed it off-camera with Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on Jan. 2, 2021, according to secret recordings from former Fox News producer Abby Grossberg.

Cruz had proposed forming a commission to audit voter fraud in the disputed states, even though Trump’s own Justice Department said there was no voter fraud on a scale that could have tipped the 2020 election. Dozens of court cases claiming fraud had been rejected or gone unheard.
Cruz said he did not recall conversations with Trump ally John Eastman, the conservative lawyer who was the architect of the alternative electors plan. Last month, federal authorities seized Eastman’s phone and issued subpoenas to electors in states nationwide allegedly involved in the scheme.

Within an hour of Cruz’s speech, a violent pro-Trump mob broke through a police line and forced their way into the Senate chamber itself. As of writing, the Capitol remains out of law enforcement’s control.
Cruz’s effort to walk the line failed. The viper devoured him. His speech Wednesday — a cynical effort to undermine democracy, some of the last words to echo in the chamber before he and his colleagues had to flee — will be one of his primary legacies.
