Fascinating are people who have such inerrant ideological commitments that they are unable to accept a range of meanings for certain concepts like “socialism”. They don’t understand the possibility of heterodox rather than heterodox meaning, but because they can barely spell those words, they attack like bad lawyers re: the process rather than the truth, and resort to table pounding — “I cannot read what you wrote; it’s propaganda”. That citation alone, “propaganda” signifies that the person does not in fact know what propaganda actually is, because they are committed to their bias and dogma. Fortunately they are few and far between and at least they can be identified and over the years. Sadly, they fail to have learned anything, especially the reality that any analysis must allow for change, revision, and adaptation. The tendency is for such discourse to be from a privileged population.
Similarly phallic invasion is a fear manipulated by the ignorant, especially in the attempts to reinforce the gender binary in a world that has more unisex water closets than one imagines. More ridiculous is using state power with judges and cops.
A warm place to take a shit is all anyone needs.
RON DESANTIS JUST TOOK TWO BIG STEPS TO MAKE TRANS LIVES ILLEGAL
BILLS SIGNED INTO LAW WEDNESDAY WILL FURTHER RESTRICT TRANS RIGHTS IN HIS STATE, AND THERE’S NO TELLING HOW FAR THE EXTREMIST POLITICIAN WILL GO
Florida isn’t only criminalizing medical professionals for providing gender-affirming medical care. The second new law effectively criminalizes trans people themselves.
H.B. 1521 bans trans people from using the restroom that fits with their gender identity in most government buildings. Defining sex based on a biological, birth-based definition, the law then limits restroom use in government-owned buildings based on that definition of sex. It applies in prisons and detention facilities, schools, and any public building — which appears to include any government-owned airport, convention center, or stadium.
The law forces schools and prisons to create new disciplinary procedures for employees, students, and/or inmates who violate the law — again, for trans people, this means using the restroom that fits their gender identity.
For others, and for non-employees in any of those public buildings, the law creates a new criminal violation. The law generally makes it a first-degree misdemeanor whenever a trans person doesn’t leave a restroom when asked to leave by any employee of the government agency that occupies that building. A first-degree misdemeanor can mean up to a year in prison in Florida. For not leaving a bathroom.
These new laws will be challenged in court, and all or most of the provisions might even end up being struck down. But that isn’t enough.
The stall (second from right) at the Minneapolis–St. Paul Airport bathroom in which the incident occurred gained notoriety. The restroom was later demolished.
Comedian Charlie Berens referenced the incident in his 2023 special "Midwest Goodbye" describing a situation which might lead to nervousness where his "toe starts tapping like I'm an Idaho Senator in a Minneapolis bathroom." Then adding, "That joke's from 2007, you're welcome."
Darn phallus invasions:
One of the few documented modern cases of a candiru fish swimming into a urethra is reported to have taken place in 1997, in Itacoatiara, Brazil. The patient, a 23-year-old man, claimed that while he was urinating in a river a candiru jumped from the water into his urethra. He needed a painful, two-hour urological procedure to remove the fish.
