It’s too soon.
The end of summer, that is.
It’s over. Tonight.
Tomorrow begins a new season.
Frankly, fall is the time of year where I miss Michigan the most. And I mean, I’ve seen the foliage of Maine and Massachusetts and the array of colors as fall advances in those state is stunning but...it’s not Michigan.
The air conditioners begin to be off more than on. It’s warm enough to crack a window for a little air yet chilly enough that you may, just may, want to slip under a blanket and enjoy the most restful sleeps since...well, last fall.
I live in a college town where the main university is on a quarter system; this week saw the college kids come back.
Downtown bustles a little bit although, of course, the real nightlife is in Chicago; bars on the north side of Howard Street began to disappear even before the COVID-19 pandemic and are almost non-existent now.
I do miss the 24 hour Burger King that was located on the cusp of downtown and the main campus where on a fall (or even some of the more frigid winter nights!), you could see several industrious students cramming for tests or getting that 15 page paper or the loudest frat bros trying to withstand the occasional long lines just long enough to put something on their stomach or a few of the homeless huddled into the far reaches trying to stay warm.
(The 24 hour Burger King did fall victim to the 2020 pandemic.)
Some Halloween decorations are already being displayed.
And before you know it, those advertisements will be everywhere the thoughts and smells of turkey, ham, and the trimmings will be everywhere and...the cold.
I’ll enjoy tonight and tomorrow while it lasts. It seems as if it doesn’t last long.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. NC Doug’s comment in CorpFlunky’s diary Trump and junkyard dogs. Beautiful area between NC-TN border and Asheville, but some of the people are seriously less than beautiful.
