Today is the Autumn Equinox for those of us living in the northern hemisphere. For many pagans it's the holy day of Mabon. A good time to set intentions for the future, and for literal as well as spiritual housecleaning.
A simple ritual for releasing what no longer serves us can be performed by writing it down on a slip of paper, then burning it while envisioning yourself and your life freed from that which needs to end. Alternatively, the small paper can be flushed down the toilet, because you're done with that sh!t.
This liminal time lends itself well to introspection and meditation, which can take whatever form works best for you. Cleaning your house, tidying your garden, and quiet creative pursuits work well for those of us (like myself) who find it difficult if not impossible to sit in a lotus position for any length of time. A refreshing walk outdoors or ecstatic dance are excellent, active ways to reach a meditative state.
Mabon is known by some as a kind of "pagan Thanksgiving", and of course a nice meal enjoyed alone or in the company of people you cherish is always appropriate. However you may celebrate it, I wish you all the blessings of the day. And for those who live in the southern hemisphere, a very Happy Ostara!
