Kos; Please Read - And Fix Whatever This Is, Regarding, Text And Ads! So, Distracting!

I Have A Question; Has The Formatting Concerning A User’s Diary Page Changed Recently?

Is What I’m Seeing A Glitch, Or Did Dkos Change The Format For Ads?

Now Placing Ads, In The Middle Of A Diary’s Text?

If I click “see ads” I’m seeing a huge moving, “trending diaries,”/combination ad, in the middle of the page text.

Even though I know ads are only seen by “non-subscribers,” those not signed in, or anyone crazy enough to want to click “see ads.”

The placement of this ad, in the center of text, is very distracting and looks terrible too. I’m confused as to the cause of this ad's placement.

At first, I couldn’t be sure what’s happening. Why was this huge, moving, “trending diaries banner/ad,” in the middle of my diary text?

I don’t know if seeing this ad in the paragraphs of my text, is caused by me, “user error” and it’s only showing up in the middle of my text, because of something like my page being too big?

Could this; “moving-combination trending diaries info and part ad,” actually be located on top of the page but on my computer, it appears to be located in the text and I’m not seeing it that way?

Or is this “middle of the page,” ad placement, something new, like the new front-page formatting, here at Dkos?

I did have to replace my 14-year-old computer few years ago and this new one doesn’t have things like page or, font size, customized.

I usually don't see ads being a subscriber. (Thank you Kossacks for buying me that Lifetime Subscription, way back when I first joined Dkos and they were still available).

And Kossacks are the nicest people anywhere. They took me in. Kossacks taught me so much.

Some things I remember are; don’t ask stupid questions (that’s what google is for), always use trusted sources, don’t use commas wrong and just recently, don’t bold everything.

Tonight, I was watching youtube, on incognito mode where I’m not signed in to Dkos, and I stopped here just to check on the ads. They had improved considerably in content and figured I’d just have a look.

Then; I See, An Ad!

A Huge, Moving Ad, In The Middle Of My Diary Text! Says Daily Kos-top left corner.

In Glaring Colors! 

Horrible!

Ads when placed like this, in the middle of diary text and at eye level, distract from the diary’s content and the reader’s ability to comfortably read it.

And moving ads, make me dizzy.

I just wrote a new diary with beautiful videos (posting tomorrow, Saturday 9/9 at 7pm), I was reviewing my editing, when, what a shock, I see, Ron De Santis head staring at me!

I read a comment several weeks ago, where a Kossack was saying he was seeing floating pictures in the middle of his page. I didn’t understand what he was talking about. Now I understand.

This has to be something new. I update and check my diaries all the time. And the ad content and placements too. I just clicked, “show ads,” on my regular web browser where I am signed in and yes, that horrible moving banner ad is still there!

Why is this huge ad even in the middle of text in diaries? It serves no practical purpose. Those trending diaries in the same banner format (not moving) are on the front page. 

Kossacks work hard to write their diaries.  I read many of them and can see all the work involved.  ie I, myself, don’t just write any old diary. Mine are all heavily researched and written by a perfectionist (me). I learned to be even more so, from the Artists and all my College Professors.

I work-studied, typing for the Art Professors in my College’s Art Dept. I worked there for seven years, when I was in college.

I learned a lot from them and all my Artist friends. Even if I can’t draw a straight line without a ruler.

Also, I know about and have experience with marketing and advertising.

If I were placing the ads on Dkos; I would place all ads especially large ads, and brightly colored ones), at the bottom of a diary page. Or as a header. Way up high. With small ads under the trending list.

Never in the middle of the text!

Ads shouldn’t distract the reader. They should be visible, but not, glaring in one’s face.

I had 2 jobs in college. The one typing, in the Art Dept. and a second selling, in marketing. I sold magazine subscriptions, and a credit card.

I used to put applications in colorful cardboard holders and staple them on bulletin boards all over campus and on counters. I plastered the applications everywhere!

Just like I’m all over the internet now. I was everywhere, back then, too.

I was only a boss’s helper, but I made $50 a week for about 5 hours work. More at the beginning of the school semester. Good money in 1983.

I learned a lot about ad placement etc. I had this job, for 7 years too.

I was a professional student. Have ½ a Master's Degree besides the BA.

So, I know about marketing and advertising.

I didn’t see these ads in the middle of my Dkos page previously, (when I was, on the rare occasion, signed out). I looked, a few months ago.

I do a lot of work; researching, writing, diaries and I like them to look nice and be easy to read and understand.

These horrible ads in the middle of my diaries text/paragraphs, are very disturbing to me.

Please Kos Move These Ads That I’m Seeing, Out Of The Text-To The Top Or Bottom Of Diary Pages.

Or At Least Put Them, To The Side Of The Page, Where All The Other Ads Are.

They Are Horrible And Very Distracting!

Especially, At Eye Level.

I just spent over 3 weeks researching and writing and editing tomorrow’s new diary.

It took me over a week just to edit the youtube videos.

Deleting youtube “recommendations” for videos and blocking some ads. Because there’s so much garbage on youtube and the “recommended” videos pop up at the end of any videos I post. (Talk about annoying).

I don't want random videos and ads, getting on the youtube recommend list and being seen on my diary videos, that I spend hours and days finding.

I must have clicked, “don’t recommended this channel,” for a thousand individual videos and channels. No exaggeration. It took days, click after click.

Tedious-time consuming; “scan and click, scan and click.” Over and over again!

Then I see Ron De Santis idiot face and other gop, on what looked like some sort of an advertisement! Located in the center of my Dkos, diary text!

Any ad in the middle of my text-hard work, especially colorized, “random,” continually changing, moving ads, really upsets me. Especially in the middle of my beautiful diaries!

If this Trending banner/ad was on top or bottom of the diary page, it would be fine. I love to promote other Kossacks work. But not in the middle of my diary!

I’ve Seen This Type Of Ad Placement Elsewhere. But Never On Dkos that I remember.

When I'm researching for my diaries and when I see these type of “middle of the page ads.” on other websites, I won't use that link.

I just found out this “sticking ads all over a website’s page” is everywhere! ie The Associated Press, HuffPost-vs my diary same subject Natural Insect Repellent Plants And Pesticides And The HUD Housing Choice Voucher Program. Mine is minus the kaleidoscope of colors! 

I had to stop researching and reading after two pages, got dizzy and disoriented immediately. 

Now I see these ads, even on a website like BallotPedia. At least the BallotPedia ads are a darker color, and they have the x to close them.

Dkos ads are only a few ads, in comparison to some other websites. But that big moving- one in the middle of the page text is horrible enough, all by itself!

I just checked and the Dkos ads on the right side of the diary page, do have a close button also. And there’s a drop down list to choose why the reader/user wants to delete the ad. Hopefully after a while, if I delete enough ads the computer will get to know what I don’t like.

The big Dkos Ad in the middle of the text does not have a close button, so the reader is stuck with it. Even after scrolling past, it, it’s still there, flashing on the side of the page.

Very distracting, having a flashing, too bright ad, when one is trying to read and concentrate.

I just tried to use google about this issue, and I accidently hit 3 websites before I realized I was being visually assaulted with 20, 30 ads. All at the same time. Some moving. Some in blinding color. All on the same page!

All these websites are trusted sources, with these ridiculous ads all over the page? Money talks, apparently.

Daily Kos is a unlike “mainstream news.” It’s a progressive, interactive, news community. At Daily Kos, we have dignity. Dignity is the Democratic message.

The “mainstream media,” are not, as independent as Kossacks. They, have to answer to someone. 

With Kossacks independence and dignity are important issues, even if we starve for them.

Now after writing this diary, I’m noticing these moving ads on websites all over! I guess I never paid attention to them before, because I always immediately scroll away when I see all that type of chaos on a website/page.

These “in the middle of the page ads,” cause difficulty with the reader’s focus on the content of the text. And they lose interest. I do.

And these ads destroy the look of mine and everyone's diaries.

I remember reading here at Dkos, in one of your diaries Kos, several years ago, about websites being, forced, to display ads.

You were correct then Kos. Ads are a very bad idea for websites.

I really didn’t understand what it was about completely, didn’t understand it then. Was the FTC, some new law, etc that said websites had to allow ads?

I’m sure, forcing websites to display ads is, some type of plot by the right wing-gop and assorted cronies.

Used as some form of obfuscation, imo. Everyone knows that advertisements often contain subliminal messages. (“Like, If you can buy stuff, the economy is good, etc”).

At least I’m a subscriber and signed in and don’t see what appears to be; these terrible, atrocious ads in the middle of diaries.

It’s others I’m concerned about. non-subscribers. Who do, see ads.

I like to share my diaries. Everywhere, Facebook (all my friends), I still go to Twitter.  For me, it’s a “captured audience.”

If a person is sick, they should see a doctor immediately. Not Google their symptoms or take advice from advertisers.

But Can They Force Websites, To Place Those Ads, At The Top Of The Diary Page? Or Even Worse (If possible), In The Center Of A Diary’s Text?

I’ve blocked many horrible ads, on my youtube channel besides videos. Some really awful ads out there. So much spam.

I don’t have ads on my BlogSpot website posts. For a fraction, of a fraction, of a fraction, of a penny and random, no choice of what ad, then wait forever to get paid? I just tell readers send a dollar or more, to a charity of their choice if they like my posts. They cannot force me, to have ads. 

Still Doing Research. I clicked “show ads,” again and this time I scrolled to the bottom of a diary.

Oh No! More Horrible, Random, Ads!

As I continue to research. “The plot thickens!” I click Taboola. The link for the ads.
