Yeah. That’s right. I hope it’s as irrelevant as this sticker thrown on the ground.
I live in Jerusalem and my absentee vote counts in...MICHIGAN! Israel post sucks. Apparently, we can reach people ten stories underneath a Beirut apartment building, but getting an envelop securely to Washtenaw County (Go Wolverines) in reliable and timely fashion is a bit big on us. Israel post is an embarrassment. So, I sent my ballot with a friend flying back who will mail it domestically from there. As I do every election.
It’s a myth that they don’t count absentee ballots. They are required to by law. Though as they only begin to count them on election day and generally do so last, it can take up to 10 days post election to count them all. The closer the election, the more likely that absentee ballots will make a difference. Obviously, if the number of absentee ballots is less than the par between the candidates’ vote totals, they call the election. Then counting my ballot becomes a formality.
So, I fulfilled my duty and exercised my right. And I hope it doesn’t matter. I hope Harris takes Michigan by 8 points and the state is called when the polls close. I pray my vote proves as irrelevant as irrelevant can be.
Now, about the missiles that we’ve just been told are on their way…
