We all know that Fox NewsTM has been a writhing nest of lies since its beginning, but their latest stunt, circulating the abject lies about FEMA, may have finally gotten them far enough out over their skis to take down.
What if the next AG, (we all know Garland would never do it), files a defamation suit against Fox on behalf of FEMA? FEMA and the people who are eligible for assistance that they’re hesitating to get because of the lies.
Dominion was awarded three quarters of a billion dollars for Fox’s lies about their voting machines. The damage Fox is currently doing to US citizens, homeowners, etc, by lying about Biden & Harris not being aware & involved with both of the hurricane emergency efforts, (to say nothing about telling people that if they accept any assistance from FEMA- even the $750 get-you-by money to cover immediate needs-it puts their house & property in danger of being stolen by the government), those lies are so far beyond the pale that even Fox viewers might reconsider their viewership if it’s presented side by side with the real news coverage. There are a couple of diaries up showing the coverage side by side, it’s like looking at two different countries, not two different stations covering the same situation.
The confusion, pain and anguish, the hardship of refusing the assistance that’s available and that they’re entitled to, that’s a lot of damage.
A lot of very clear cut damage, if shown to a jury of regular people, side by side with the real news coverage. Coverage that includes Republican elected officials attempting to debunk the lies in order to get help where it needs to be.
It might just be a stark enough difference to make a dent in the infamous bubble.
The GOP and Russian disinformation campaigns are desperate enough to go all in on trying to rile people up in time for the election, they know this is their last real chance to throw things their way and implement Project 2025 to entrench themselves in power, and they’re scrabbling for anything that might move the momentum back to their favor.
But what they’re doing is a short term fix, trying to lock in votes before their lies get found out. They’re hoping that they can snag the win and set their hooks before the marks understand what’s going on. That puts them in danger of overshooting the mark with heavy handed propaganda that makes people hesitate, then realize the situation and then get really angry.
The blowback from overplaying their hand could finally put paid to their credibility with a large enough number of their viewers to affect their advertisers.
Not all of that can be laid at Fox’s feet, but enough can that a jury should be able and inclined to smack Fox down hard. And the bad PR- plus the direct comparison- might just break a few Fox viewers of their favorite plug-in drug.
IANAL, so I don’t know if it’s even possible, (maybe some of our legal eagles can chime in and clarify), but, The People of the United States/FEMA vs Fox News has a very $$$$ly ring to it, doesn’t it?
