Well, well, well. This looks like a harbinger of good things to come. The useless Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, apparently had to take wing to Pennsylvania to try to save a Republican held district:
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson attended a Mechanicsburg fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Scott Perry (R-10th District) Friday as the former Freedom Caucus chair faces what may be his toughest reelection challenge since taking office in 2013.
The show of support from Johnson comes as the most recent polls find Perry trailing his Democratic opponent, Janelle Stelson. And campaign finance filings show he is being outraised as well.
“That is a sign that the Republicans are deeply concerned about this race,” said Alison Dagnes, a professor of political science at Shippensburg University. “They would not waste leadership time, effort, money, etc. on something they were not concerned about.”
Here is the 10th district in PA, which Trump won in 2020 by 51% to 47% (Biden):
Janelle Stelson, a former news anchor, is polling quite well, against her opponent:
Harrisburg-based Susquehanna Polling and Research released the poll that shows Stelson leading Perry 48% to 39% with a 5% margin of error.
And Kamala leads there as well!
The poll also shows that Kamala Harris is leading Donald Trump in the presidential race, 46% to 41%. In 2020 Lee says Trump won the 10th District by 4% so either the district has changed or voter’s preferences have changed.
I would say it’s more likely their preferences have changed. People don’t seem to want to eat a shit sandwich this year.
PA-10 is not what I would consider a traditional swing district, since it seems to be in the heart of Pennsyltucky. Trump won here by 4% in 2020, and the district hasn’t elected a Democrat to the House of Representatives since 2008. This also happens to be the year Obama was first elected, which is when we saw a lot of states swing blue.
Perry seems very unpopular here:
Perry also has a high unfavorable rating in the poll; 38% of voters view him unfavorably, and just 27% have a favorable opinion. Stelson has a 40% favorable opinion among voters, and just 20% say they view her unfavorably.
The delicious and righteous reason why he is so unpopular:
Perry’s apparent slipping support is due to a number of factors, but multiple local analysts made note of his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
“He’s gotten a lot of negative attention since 2020,” said Dan Mallinson, associate professor of public policy and administration at Penn State Harrisburg. “His involvement in 2020 and trying to overturn the [election] results here in Pennsylvania, all the subsequent information that was released in the investigation into his post-election activity, the FBI taking his phone … There’s just been a lot of negative attention to a candidate.”
I guess reasonable voters want to preserve democracy after all and don’t take too kindly to insurrections. Autocracy and Project 2025 isn’t selling folks.
And don’t believe any of the bullshit that the PA polls are shifting towards Trump:
Vote Harris/Walz!
Donate to Janelle Stelson.
