First I want to thank everyone who supported the billboard campaign I posted the link to it here on Daily Kos several times. There is a big push to get out the Democratic messaging across Alamance County and billboards are one strategy. ACDP home page. Also we have quite a few candidates putting up their own bulletin boards!
We are busy getting and distributing yard signs! Check with your local Democratic Party, and support them so they can provide signs (some of our are free, some we ask for a donation to purchase even more signs) The local candidates have been busy, and adding even more Harris Walz signs will make it all the better.
So anyway, a bit ago someone asked about supporting GOTV. This is what my county is doing in addition to all the postcard writing, phone banking, door knocking, tables at events. So consider your county’s Democratic Party Headquarters in places you may give some money to, or adopt a county that just needs a little support to go blue. Go to ActBlue and type in a county. Local political organizations also fund raise there and do a lot of GOTV, do candidate forums, etc. I know the big national campaigns need money as well, and some of that does “trickle down” but most of the volunteers and boots on the grounds are supported and launched from the local organizations, some are lucky enough to have coordinated campaign staff with the national campaign, others are not. There are opportunities to volunteer and even if you aren’t really into peopling as there is a lot of coordination and office stuff that needs to be done. We launch door knockers further out from the central office so people can spend less time driving and more time knocking doors and each site needs people to man it and report the results. I am starting to do that in the central office, but so glad we can launch from multiple locations!
I also want to acknowledge the care put into graphic design, keeping the messages short and clear so a big thank you for the committee that took the time and effort in the design. I did see the rebuttal signs ye olde gun shoppe that is all in for MAGA threw up on their digital billboard. So hard to read I would consider them a traffic hazard.
Anyway back to the Democratic billboards!
So starting with some signs in town there are also digital billboards on the interstate.
I didn’t get to all the static billboards in the county but got a good sampling of the ones here in Burlington
There are designs for other candidates as well as additional messages in English and Spanish that say “Vote Democrat” many of these will rotate on the digital billboards, and here they are:
Photoed some of the more humorous signs in the wild, see above, and there are several other designs below. Some of the humorous ones have a serious message about the widespread mold problem we had in our school system’s buildings. While the local school board is responsible for the teaching going on in the buildings, the actual buildings in NC are the responsibility of the county and state governments. This didn’t have to happen, we need to invest in our students and schools so all children of Alamance County have a safe and healthy learning environment.
In addition to the billboards put up by the candidates themselves the ACDP has paid for bill boards for candidates (some in groups, some individually)
One reason to get involved in your local Democratic Headquarters, you get to meet the candidates and not just during their stump speeches, but in the office and at events. People often leave the bottom of the ballot blank because these are the folks that don’t have millions to spend on ad campaigns. They are often the people who have direct impact on your community and they need your votes!
Another Local Candidate not in the group shot signs:
On to the State wide Candidates:
So in conclusion, in addition to supporting your candidates up and down the ballot, please support the Democratic Party up and down the Party. Get involved, mobilize.us will help you find virtual and in person local events for all kinds of volunteer opportunities. Google your county and democratic headquarters and see what is going on in your community. If they have a booth at your community events, stop by. I did check out the website frequently before elections because I knew there was information about various events to see our local candidates and who they endorsed.
A couple of other things the ACDP is supporting
1) We adopted Transylvania County that was hit hard by Hurricane Helene. Link
2) We are standing with the family of Daniela Trejo Mendiola in getting justice. Link
The other place to check out here on Daily Kos is the GNR, Good News Roundup. They share information about lots of ways to support more Democratic candidates getting elected.
Don’t wake up the morning of Nov 6 thinking about the things you could have done but didn’t. Even if it is some small thing all the small things add up to something huge. I know sometimes even doing one small thing is hard, but if you have the opportunity and the ability, take it.
And Vote! Vote early if you can! That allows the canvassers and phone bankers to focus on the people who may need a little extra encouragement or support to get what they need so they too can go vote.
