This year is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reset Wisconsin’s State Legislature, flip a chamber, and open a path to a blue trifecta—because, after years of struggle, democracy defeated the gerrymander. We’ve got fair maps. Time to flip some seats.
Let’s fire up the grill and head to Sheboygan, the Bratwurst Capital of the World, to meet our next member of the WisDems Starting Lineup—Joe Sheehan for Assembly District 26.
Joe says, “It’s time that state legislators work together again to solve Wisconsin’s problems.”
Under the old GOP maps, purple Sheboygan was split into red two districts, but thanks to new fair maps, the city has been reunited, and it feels so good. Formerly crimson, AD26 is now a toss-up seat—an ideal pickup for Democrat Joe Sheehan.
The rigging of Sheboygan’s district was so drastic that this district was once internationally recognized as a pure distillation of the crisis of gerrymandering. But not anymore.
Joe Sheehan knows education—he’s been a teacher, principal, coach, and, for nearly two decades, the Superintendent for Sheboygan Area Schools. Joe believes in providing education opportunities for all, including those who aren’t college bound. Read about Joe here.
After retiring, Joe was was recruited to become Executive Director of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corp., where he collaborated with employers, government agencies, and others to create new jobs and build a stronger local economy.
Joe vows to stand up for reproductive rights, clean air and water, accessible and affordable healthcare, good roads, safe bridges, public education, and public safety. Chip in to help Joe Sheehan’s campaign to win AD26.
If Joe Sheehan wins Assembly District 26, the chance for a Democratic Assembly majority this year leaps up—and so too does the path to a statewide law protecting the reproductive freedom of Wisconsinites.
During the Wisconsin Democratic Convention in June, @harrisonjaime and I got to know Joe (along with AD89 Democrat @RyanSpaude) as one of our Wisconsin State Assembly “Majority Makers.” Check out the video here:
Joe’s opponent, Republican incumbent Amy Binsfield, who does not live in the district, is the anti-choice candidate. She voted for a 14-week abortion ban, supports the 1849 abortion ban, and is “a fan of” banning abortion at 6 weeks.
Joe Sheehan says, “If you share an idea with others, it will get better. People may call me naive and overly optimistic, but I believe there is a quiet group of both Republicans and Democrats who are willing to do that.”
Chip in to help Dem. Joe Sheehan win Assembly District 26.
In Wisconsin this year, we’ve got Dems in 97 out of the 99 Assembly races and all 16 of the Senate races. We support them all. The GOP? Just 84/99 and 11/16.
Our Starting Lineup races are the closest. Wins would end the GOP Assembly majority & break the Senate supermajority.
