The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) in Portland, Oregon, had a special exhibition, Orcas: Our Shared Future. A part of this exhibition was an exhibit of three full-size orcas: Slick (J16), Ruffles (J1), Granny (J2).
According to OMSI:
“Orcas live in close-knit communities known as pods, made up of mothers and their children.”
According to OMSI:
“Orcas have a matrilineal social structure—a society organized around mother-child relationships. One or more matrilineal groups form a pod and pods with a common pattern of language form a clan. The entire community (sometimes called an ecotype) is made of many pods and clans.”
