So Joe Biden had a gaffe. He meant to criticize the attack on Puerto Rico by a Comedian Trump supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally and accidently said that “only garbage I see floating out there are Trump’s supporters ” although that’s not what he intended.
“Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump's supporters at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage — which is the only word I can think of to describe it. His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That's all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don't reflect who we are as a nation,” Biden posted on X.
Now the MAGAs are doing what they always do. Whine and Cry that they’ve been “attacked.”
Rubio: Moments ago Joe Biden stated that our supporter are “garbage.”
[Boos]
He’s talking about the Border Patrol. He’s talking about Nurses, he's talking about Teachers, he’s talking about every day Americans who love their country and want to dream big again for you Mr. President. And I hope their campaign is about to apologize for what Joe Biden just said. We are not garbage, we are Patriots who love America and thank you for running Mr. President.
[...]
Trump: That’s terrible. That’s what it says. [...] And I’m so proud that we’re getting support from Latinos like never before. We’re setting every record. Hispanics. Latinos. Nobody loves our Latino community and our Puerto Rican community more than I do. Nobody.
It’s interesting because I’ve done more for Puerto Rico than any President by far. [He held back $20 Billion in relief funds after Hurricane Maria which led to over 4,300 people dying from lack of water, food and electricity] Nobody close. I provided historic funding and the Hospital Ship when we had we hit with a couple realy bad ones in a row. We got the ship over there [They came on their own.] with thousands of rooms. I will deliver the best future for Puerto Ricans and Hispanic Americans.
Yeah, right dude. You tossed them paper towels, lying about it now doesn’t help.
Let me get this straight. Biden has already corrected the record. He made a mistake, he said something wrong, and he’s sorry. It didn’t come out the way he intended.
But the MAGA are now saying he meant it the wrong way. They’re offended and angry that they think that Biden said something that is literally the same thing that Hinchcliffe said about Puerto Rico a couple days ago.
How did they respond to that?
JD Vance said “Maybe it’s a stupid racist joke, maybe it’s not.”, he said that people need to “get over it” and Trump doesn’t “demean people who don't vote for him.” [except for when he calls them “sick, evil, vermin, the enemy from within” and repeatedly threatens to use the Military against them.]
Majorie Taylor Greene said Hinchcliffe was right about Puerto Rico. The RNC said they didn’t vet Hinchcliffe’s comments although they did nix his “joke” calling Kamala Harris a “c*nt.” Hinchcliff himself made fun of the people who complained. That’s not to mention that he also attacked Black people, Jews and Palestinians. Trump has said he “doesn’t know who [Hinchcliffe] is” but he hasn't condemn the comments.
Biden owned that he said things wrong and corrected the record immediately. These guys deflected, made excuses, tried to brush it off and in some cases doubled-down on it.
And their whining about it now is clearly bullshit.
Here's how Rep. Lee Zeldin tried to deflect the fallout of the MSG rally while SE Cupp said “that was garbage.”
Former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) on Monday night repeatedly deflected during an appearance on CNN from questioning from anchor Kaitlan Collins – and other panel guests – pivoting instead to topics such as Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton and MSNBC.
“Why is this Kamala Harris’ problem? This is the Republic Party’s problem,” conservative commentator S.E. Cupp told Zeldin. “You’re a good conservative Lee, I know you, why can’t you say that that was garbage?!”
He appeared to confuse Cupp with his response.
“Would you say that that’s a Nazi rally? Would you say that Trump is Hitler?
“I didn’t say that,” Cupp responded.
“No, you wouldn’t, you didn’t, but the problem is Hilary Clinton did,” he said.
Cupp again told Zeldin he was “a good conservative” and asked if he would condemn the rally, which the former lawmaker again refused.
“It doesn't take a lot of courage to say on the policies I’m with him, but this is garbage,” Cupp later said.
Compare that to this Republicans getting upset over what Biden said.
Julie Roginsky did not try to hide her disdain for Lance Trover, former spokesperson for Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), and his argument that Biden's "garbage" comment was equivalent to former President Donald Trump's rhetoric casting foes as "the enemy within."
"I'm sorry — are you actually offended by what Joe Biden said?" Roginsky asked. "Are you going to use the same metric to say Donald Trump should not be calling people like me vermin?"
Roginsky admitted much frustration with media coverage of what she dubbed Biden's "word salad" comment on Tuesday in which he called it unconscionable to demonize Latinos.
Biden later said he was referring to the joke of a supporter's — Tony Hinchcliffe, who called Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage" at a Trump rally — and not supporters casting a ballot for the former president.
"We have now spent the last 12 hours talking about whether Joe Biden meant a possessive noun or a plural noun, we have not spent much time talking about the fact that the economy grew 2.8% under this administration," said Roginsky. "We have not talked about the fact that [Speaker] Mike Johnson wants to repeal Obamacare."
Roginsky argued it mattered little either way because the names on ballot belong to Vice President Kamala Harris — who has distanced herself from the claim — and Trump, who declined to condemn Hinchcliffe's joke.
"Donald Trump can say the worst things on earth, he can call Democrats vermin, he can call them the enemy from within, and people say, 'Well, that's just Trump being Trump and no big deal,'" said Roginsky.
"Are you going to distance yourself from your candidate, the one who's running to be president for the next four years? Or do you want to dwell on Joe Biden who you won't have to think about three months from now?"
Trover said he didn't like the "verbiage" from either campaign and condemned Harris' for drawing comparisons between Trump and authoritarian leaders.
"The Harris campaign has said time and again, tossed around the word 'Hitler,' they have tossed around 'fascism' for weeks and tossed around 'Nazis,'" Trover said. "I'm just saying, Joe Biden is the sitting president—
It was at this point anchor Joe Acosta jumped in to tell Trover he was wrong — and Roginsky laughed.
"Harris has not called Donald Trump a Hitler or a Nazi or anything like that," he said. "She has described him as a fascist and we just had Anne Applebaum, who was an expert on this from the Atlantic, on just a few moments ago, who said, 'You know, when Donald Trump is using terms like 'the enemy from within' to talk about political opponents in this country that, that is dangerous.'
Trover stuck to his guns, arguing there was no reason for Democrats to hurl such accusations, which prompted Roginsky to list the Republicans and former Trump staffers who have called him a fascist.
She closed the segment with a lengthy rebuke to conservative lawmakers and operatives still supporting Trump's candidacy.
"Quite honestly, I don't mind debating these issues I just mind the hypocrisy where people are up in arms about Biden's word salad but can't bring themselves to distance themselves from the fact that Donald Trump refers to people as vermin and the enemy from within and basically threatens to arrest people like Gen. [Mark] Milley and put them put them up on treason charges," said Roginsky.
Yep.
Trump says this shit all the time, and even worse. He never backs down. He never apologizes. He never says “I misspoke.” And he doesn’t comdemn others, particularly when they parrot him after he says immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our nation.” He attacks his fellow Americans and especially Democrats constantly.
In fact, he’s previously called Democrats “Garbage” as JD Vance recently found out.
"One of Kamala Harris's biggest donors is doubling down on calling half the country 'garbage,'" Vance wrote on X. "Will they continue to insult half of the country for the sin of thinking Kamala Harris isn't good at her job?"
The Lincoln Project replied with a video and a quote.
"It’s the people that surround her, they’re scum and they want to take down our country," Trump says in the video. "They are absolute garbage.”
But the GOP doesn’t get upset over any of that. They freak out because Biden has a gaffe.
Again.
