I’m really gonna need us all to quit freaking out over every little thing.
I mean, yeah, it’s stressful. The stakes are high. I get it.
I know full well what happens if that guy somehow gets back into the White House. You don’t need to tell me.
But can we stop doing MAGA’s work for it?
If we’re not freaking out about polls, we’re freaking out about the early vote. If we’re not freaking out about the early vote, we're freaking out about Republicans’ foolishly transparent intent to overthrow the election.
Yes, they’re saying this out loud. Yes, that’s incredibly dumb, from a strategic standpoint.
Here’s the deal: there’s nothing we can do about the lawsuits. About whatever Mike Johnson fantasizes at night that won’t set off that app he shares with his son. Because I don't see a universe in which Kamala Harris becomes president, but Democrats don't regain the House. Ol’ Mikey won't be holding the gavel come Jan. 6.
Not to mention the Electoral Reform Act, passed in 2022 and crafted specifically to avoid shenanigans again.
But the swing states!
Most of them have Democrats in the governor's chair and the Secretary of State’s office. Those that don’t? Well… do you really think Georgia’s governor and SoS are gonna bend over backwards for Dear Leader, when they refused to do so in 2020, and he’s proceeded to tear them a new one every chance he gets?
Now… that part above where I said this was a foolish move on the GOP’s part? I hear a lot that Republicans have had four years to gear up for this. Well, so has the Biden White House. This has been on President Biden’s radar for a long while. He’s got a legal team gathered just for this.
So does the Harris campaign. Their legal team is even more robust than Biden’s. And it includes this guy named Marc Elias — who I hear is pretty good at the whole protecting-voters thing.
Security at the Capitol on Jan. 6 will be at inauguration levels. This whole thing has been so transparent that all the people who need to see it coming from a mile away will see it coming from a mile away. And just because we’re being mum about it, that doesn’t mean nothing’s being done. They’re not going to show the playbook.
Here’s another thing… ever since the last Jan. 6, MAGA chuds have been locked up in large numbers. Every time he’s asked his cult to cause trouble for him since then, he’s been met with relative silence. He asked them to show up for his court dates; they didn’t.
Hell, he can’t even get them to stay for one of his rallies anymore. This isn’t the case of the Wicked Witch and her flying monkeys anymore. The thrill is gone, even for the most diehard MAGA.
Yes, there are isolated incidents. Yes, the threat should be taken seriously. But I see the people behind him on stage, yawning through his diatribes, and I don’t see where they take up arms when he loses Michigan by five points.
Fact is, we can’t do anything about any of this stuff. But there is one thing we can do.
Vote.
Vote in numbers large enough that the outcome cannot be doubted. Vote in such margins that every challenge will get laughed out of court (yes, even that court, if it comes to that). Let’s take care of the one part of this we can control, and let the lawyers handle the rest.
The GOP wants us pissing down our legs and quivering in fear. They want this air of invincibility. They want us to think a second regime is happening no matter what. Don’t feed into that. They are not invincible, they are not inevitable, and it’s high time we all stopped acting like it.
The people who need to handle this are handling it. Do your part.
And for gods’ sake, breathe!
