This is my first story. I’m not really sure how many of these I’m going to write, but I wanted to talk about this just because it made my whole week.
I’m a new Democratic Precinct Delegate in my area and have been handing out voter guides to all of the Democratic voters in my neighborhood. The guide outlines not only the top of the ticket and down-ballot Democratic candidates, but also the non-partisan candidates who often get overlooked by voters just because no one knows much about them.
I have been hustling to get these guides out to absentee ballot voters before they send out their ballots. It’s been almost an entire week of me knocking on doors and making sure these folks have this guide during my lunch breaks at work. Some people were happy to see me, some not so much because they think I’m a solicitor. But my very last residence was the one that made me glad that I became a precinct delegate.
This last person had just opened up her absentee ballot and was about to fill it out before I knocked on her door. When I handed her the guide, her eyes lit up and she thanked me for helping her out. She didn’t know anything about the non-partisan candidates or where they stood from a values perspective and was about to call her friends and family for guidance.
It made me really want to keep going on and keep on doing this, and it showed me first-hand that all of our efforts help make a difference.
