Technology venture capitalist Ben Horowitz and his business partner Marc Andreessen stunned Silicon Valley by endorsing and donating to Donald Trump back in July, when Joe Biden was still in the race, saying Trump was the best candidate for technology startups. Well, that was then. Horowitz has seen the error of his ways and has just announced that he and his wife Felicia will be supporting Kamala Harris and making a “significant” donation to her campaign.
Horowitz announced his change of heart via an email sent on Friday to his firm’s employees:
As I mentioned before, Felicia and I have known Vice President Harris for over 10 years and she has been a great friend to both of us during that time. She's also been a friend to the firm in our early days, helping with several events at my house when we built the original Cultural Leadership Fund network.
As a result of our friendship, Felicia and I will be making a significant donation to entities who support the Harris Walz campaign.
Horowitz also notes in his email that his personal support for Harris is separate from whether or not his firm will support her campaign. He says he has had several conversations with Harris and her team on their likely tech policies and is “encouraged” by his belief in her, but wants to hear more about those policies before the firm might support her as a company.
Forbes calls Horowitz’s announcement a “notable reversal” from the summer, when Trump seemed to be pulling key tech figures away from the Democratic Party. Seems like Horowitz wants to be make sure to be on the winning side in November. This is no doubt making waves in the tech industry. Will more reversals come?
