From what I could figure, using 2022 numbers, the lower third of income families are below $60,000, the upper third is above 110,000. It looks as if this is a first in about 60 years.
I’m not one of those saying this is a landslide mandate whatever. These election results might as well of been a tie and it would have been just as likely that Harris had swept every tossup state just as silver warned. I’ve heard 150 thousand votes spread over 3 states would have given us an electoral win. The popular vote is only 1.5% difference.
Still, looking at the chart above it does make me think. Below 60 thousand dollars are two income families maybe working daycare and fork lift driver full time. Big box retail. The trades pay a lot better but there are big periods of no work and people end up not making much.
Maybe we need to forget all those things that take splainin and concentrate on minimum wages. If other countries can have a higher minimum I don’t see why we can’t. I signed the front of the check for more than 25 years. I first heard of $15 in 08, that would be $22 now, that would probably be a good place to start and $33 for all food service workers, forget the tips. Restaurants are a luxury, I figure those who can afford to eat at restaurants can afford to pay.
We do need to somehow shake things up. I don’t want to be the party of rich people exploiting the poor. If the Republicans are forced to make concessions to the working class to retain voters, now might be a good time to take advantage by raising them double or nothing.
