Before the election, I drove to PA to volunteer for the Dems on a number of weekends. Although it turns out to have not made a difference in the outcome, I am grateful for every moment I spent there because I was a part of a web of literally millions of volunteers working to get Harris elected.
I met people from all over the country — young, old, and everywhere in between — who gave up days, weeks, or even months of their lives to come to a swing state to fight for democracy.
Those people are real. Those people still exist. Those people surround us. Those people will stand with us.
The crowds you saw at her rallies. Those people are real.
The people who lined up to vote in blue areas. Those people are real.
The people writing postcards. The people making calls. The people putting out signs.
Those people are real and we are all still here.
The next few years are going to be hard. No one can argue with that.
But do not forget, for even one second, that you are a part of a large group of Americans who loves our country, our democracy and one another.
You are supported. You are not alone.
I have been blown away by how many people are stepping up already and joining groups, making calls to Senators, and donating.
It is ok — normal even — to feel scared and sad and angry and worried. You are not alone in those emotions.
But as you process this, please remember that you are surrounded by other people who feel the same way. That we will do all we can to protect one another.
I am so grateful and so lucky to be in this with all of you.
