I was floored about a month ago when I found out that a former work colleague (a real accomplished person) hadn’t voted since 2008 despite living in a swing state. We spoke and texted repeatedly about the importance of voting this year (and the war in Gaza was a real hurdle) but he went and voted early for Harris/Walz! It’s just so nice to see that check box next to his name — “VOTED!” Hell yeah!
It’s pretty easy to see who still has “NOT YET VOTED” and help them make a plan.
I have 4 more people, to reach out to based on the info from the Reach app, one of whom is an extremely inconsistent voter in a swing state but who will vote Harris. If he votes.
It takes 15 minutes to setup the Dem’s Reach app. A simple ask from a friend is going to be read, and you know what issues matter to your friends and family.
Below are 3 steps to set it up. FYI, the DNC also has instructions here. Step 3 gives an option to search for one person at a time (3-A) or search automatically by using the contact list on your phone (3-B). The automatic search is fast and gives you an option to avoid sharing your friends’ phone numbers or emails.
STEP 1. I DOWNLOADED IT FROM THE APP STORE FOR MY PHONE.
FYI, you need to give them your phone number to set it up. (I’ve gotten comments that people don’t like that, so FYI)

STEP 2. I JOINED AN ORGANIZING NETWORK WITH A COUPLE OF CLICKS. JOINING “TAKE BACK THE HOUSE” will GIVE YOU NATIONAL ACCESS (and make it easier to see who hasn’t voted yet).
STEP 3-A: YOU CAN SEARCH MANUALLY.
That’s it.
The most important part was up to me. How would I reach out to them? Maybe I’d leverage another contact, etc.
STEP 3-B: AUTOMATICALLY SEARCH YOUR CONTACT LIST
After clicking on “my reach” there’s a button labeled “import”. That sounded scary to me from a privacy standpoint, but all it did was search my contacts. It did not automatically share my contacts’ info with the campaign.
The search found about a 40/60 mix of “great matches” and other potential matches. For the and other potential matches that I wanted to GOTV, I needed to find the right person off a list of people with similar names, given different age ranges and locations.
Then I picked who to add to my GOTV network. See the screen grab to avoid sharing info accidentally.
Avoid that toggle button if you don’t want to share contact info.
