According to the Old Testament, after the Israelites escaped from Egypt, they wandered for a while in the Sinai desert until they came to the foot of Mount Sinai. There they camped, while Moses climbed the mountain to pray. It isn’t clear from the Bible how long Moses was up there, but it must have been a while, because he had the time to carve the Ten Commandments onto stone tablets, and the Israelites had the time to make a golden calf, reminiscent of the gods worshiped back in Egypt. When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, he saw the Israelites worshiping the golden calf. He was so angry that he flung down the stone tablets and broke them. The pious Israelites were worshiping a false idol. The very first of the ten commandments established that idolatry was forbidden
What did Moses do? Three thousand of the idolaters were executed by the Levites. In addition, many of the idolaters were struck down by divine retribution, plague or whatnot. Moses went back up Mount Sinai and prayed that God would be merciful and not strike down every Israelite. He then returned with new blank stone tablets.
I see many parallels with the modern idolatrous worship of Donald Trump by some/many so-called Christians. I don’t know who plays Moses in this allegory, but it’s pretty clear who plays the Golden Calf. So now we have a class of so-called Christians worshiping a golden calf called Donald Trump. They have become idolaters.
