Here’s a video by someone I deeply respect — except on his opinion of Star Trek: Lower Decks — who makes I think a very good and strong point about drawing the line or who will be, or won’t be, someone who will continue to be friends with. Or not.
If someone has a different favorite Sports team than I do. It would be a strain — particularly if it’s the Lakers or the Dodgers — but I’d still be willing to be friends with them. If someone has a different opinion on how to cut a sandwich — lengthwise or diagonal? — I think I could still be friends with them. If someone has a different opinion on the designated hitter — I can still be friends with them.
But if you vote against my having healthcare — because I would be dead from a heart attack without Obamacare — if you voted against Reproductive Freedom — because so far, no children have been saved, but women have become infertile and died because of Dobbs — if you voted to throw millions of people out of the country — whether they’ve committed a crime or not — if you voted to end investments in clean energy and to prevent climate change — despite the damage that will happen to the planet and the people as the ice packs melt, the weather changes and the seas rise — if you were a contributor to any of this shit…. Fuck you.
Get out of my life.
What is it that being friends with a person like that — makes what they’ve done worth it? How much possible joy and companionship is worth so many people suffering and dying?
Do you think Stalin was really “Funny” so you ignore the piles of bodies? Sorry, I can’t be friends with someone who supports Fascism. I can’t be friends with someone who supports Bigotry, Racism and misogyny. I can’t be friends with someone who endorses genocide. Sorry, there’s a line in the sand — and if you’ve crossed that line, you’re done. Adios. Buh Bye.
The only question for me is: are they salvageable?
Are they capable of realizing what they’ve done, do they understand what they’ve endorsed, and are they able to understand the damage that they’ve caused?
Everyone said this would be the “most consequential election of our lifetimes” — so, yeah, these are the consequences.
Do they have remorse? Are they redeemable? Shouldn’t we have forgiveness?
Today is Thanksgiving, is it worth it to be forgiving to someone who is willing to apologize and repent?
Here’s are some borderline examples.
In the first example, the father laments his two daughters disowning him. Then he says that they were victims of “propaganda” and that “liberalism is truly a mental disorder” — so I think his kids decision to stay away for Thanksgiving is probably a good idea. Maybe they should stay away for him for much longer since he considers them “insane.”
What’s going to happen when Trump's chickens start coming home to roost? What happens when he implements tariffs and prices on foreign goods start to skyrocket?
Didn’t they say they voted for lower prices?
What’s going to happen when they start deporting people by the millions and there’s no one to pck our vegetables and fruit? Then we are back in the same supply-chain problem that we had during COVID-19 when 1.2 Million Americans died.
Are regular Americans going to take those jobs? For those wages?
What’s going to happen when school kids start coming down with Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox and fucking POLIO again because RFK jr has banned mandatory vaccines?
It hasn’t happened yet. Hopefully, none of that shit happens. But all of it is on the table, right now.
This might just be our last calm quiet Thanksgiving before all hell literally breaks loose.
If Trump only gets half of his agenda done — this country is headed for a dumpster fire.
Are they going to understand that they caused this? Are they going to feel sorry?
Maybe they never will. Maybe when the bad shit starts happening they’ll find yet another excuse to somehow blame Democrats for it — just like they literally blame Inflation on the Inflation Reduction Act! — even though we’re completely out of power right now.
Maybe — well probably — they’ll gaslight the fuck out of everyone. They buy up MSNBC and sue CNN for defamation over the 2020 Election. They prosecute city and state officials who defy their decrees and have the Military arrest and put Democrats and Never Trumpers before Military Tribunals.
Maybe that will work. Maybe they’ll accept all those excuses. Maybe they’ll turn a blind eye to it.
If they do, fine — Fuck ‘Em.
But if they don’t — we need to be ready to openly and honestly hear them when they realize they’ve been strategically lied to. If they come hat-in-hand to apologize -- then we can still be friends.
