This started out as a comment on the post “Understanding the Hispanic Vote Exodus.” I decided to make my comment a seperate thread, because this is important.
OP @TalkBaja made the statement “a majority of our voting population — including a majority of Hispanics — no longer get their news from traditional news outlets, but Facebook, YouTube video channels, blogs and podcasts.” The OP is correct. but it’s not just Hispanics.
A majority of our voting asian population — from all Southeast Asian countries — also get the majority of their news from YouTube channels. By “Asian population,” I’m referring to people who speak one of the asian languages (Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean) as their primary language, and are more comfortable speaking their primary language.
So, guess what?
ALL THE FUCKING ASIAN LANGUAGE YOUTUBE CHANNELS ARE SPONSORED BY RIGHT-WINGERS!
They listen to YouTube channels broadcast in their primary languages. Most of the Chinese-language channels are sponsored by Breitbart News, Guo Wengui, and other sources in those circles. All the news asian people listen to, all day long, is slanted towards right-wingers and Trump. Tucker Carlson, for one, has a huge following here.
I know all this first-hand because my wife is a Chinese immigrant, I have a cousin who is a Vietnamese immigrant, and I’m well-hooked into their local communities. Being around these folks forces me to listen in to the English-language portions of these broadcasts. I have to grit my teeth listening to crap the talking heads spew. Then I have to deal with the fallout of disinformation my family and friends spew after listening to a broadcast.
It’s not just the entertainment. These native-language channels know which buttons to push. For example, a big push for Chinese people is showing how Democrats are just like the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and Mao. Which is why these immigrants left China — to escape these policies. “Proving” that Democrats are like the CCP automatically turns any Chinese person away from Democrats.
Anyone want to take a guess at how these asian groups mostly voted yesterday? Hint: it wasn’t for the Black Lady and her Midwestern VP.
I saw the same God Damn results several years ago in the Midterms and Virginia state elections. Local Democrats even noted that Democratic candidates “underperformed” in areas with large Asian populations. Without any soul-searching or fucking research into “Why” Democrats might have underperformed there.
It would have taken about ten minutes of actually talking to people to learn why. Or, someone could have asked me, ‘cause I’ve been screaming about this for the past several years.
The Democratic Party is losing entire populations of immigrants who should be our natural allies. We’re losing these people because they are not hearing our messages — only right wingers.
If somebody reading this can get through to the people in what’s left of our Democratic party who can make a change, please do. Tell them I sent you.
