Hello everyone, I’m Andy. Pleased to meet you!
I just joined and subscribed today, but I’ve been regularly following Daily Kos for many years, at least since the 2016 campaign, but I’m almost certain it’s been longer.
I’m really not the type of person who gets involved online at all. I’ve never had any type of social media account, I’ve probably posted a couple of online reviews of products I really liked or hated, but that’s about the extent of my online sharing of personal views.
For quite some time I’ve been considering actually joining DK, if only to be able to recommend posts and comments and maybe even leave my two cents as well. But, I’ve never actually gotten around to it. Like I mentioned, social media has just never been my thing.
Now that a new dark era seems to be upon us, I have decided to make a change and join up with you all. One of the most disturbing things I’ve read on DK since Tuesday was a team of panicked commenters begging Markos to delete their accounts. I even saw a title of a diary yesterday that was basically that statement. I didn’t even click on it, but I knew as soon as I saw it that it was time to create my account.
I understand the fear and panic, and not all of us are going to handle this shock the same way. But, I do hope that those people who are fearful that somehow being part of Daily Kos is going to endanger themselves can hopefully just take a beat, or two, or more, and continue to process things before making any decisions. We are just now beginning to figure out what will need to be done to organize and overcome.
Quitting is not going to help anyone. If anything, it’s just surrender. It’s what will make the bad guys celebrate. It is my intention to do the opposite. That’s how I’m choosing to deal with this.
I expect that the horrible things the future administration will try to enact will be accompanied by clownish incompetence. They will also be faced with widespread disapproval and action as long as we can all stand together and resist. To me the idea of silently going along with what they have in mind is just not a thing I can do.
So, here I am.
Pleased to meet you. No need to guess my name.
It’s Andy, reporting for duty.
