Like many of you, I didn't sleep much on Tuesday night. I tossed and turned, thinking about all the horrific scenarios laying out over the next four (?) years. My emotions ranged from shock to depression. But by dawn's early light, all of those emotions coalesced into two: rage and hatred. You see I've put my life on the line for this country and the notion of defending democracy and freedom. In one fell swoop, millions of my "fellow" Americans spit all over that. They chose to embrace hatred and bigotry. They put a convicted felon, serial rapist, and fascist fraud into the highest office in the land. They knew exactly what he was and signed up for more. They didn't care at all about the millions of people who would be targeted by his hatred.
And so now I'm left with that same hatred for them that they have for me. I won't lift a finger to help them when the policies of this government destroy their stupid little lives. I will look the other way when a climate-induced disaster rips their lives apart. I will embrace and support whichever politicians promise me that they are going to get revenge on the people who did this. I will be advocating for an amicable split from them. We hate each other anyway, so why pretend we belong in the same country? I'm done with the hopeful messages and the platitudes of how we're stronger together. We're not. It's time to move on and I'll fight against them with all the rage and hatred I now carry.
