One thing that the Republicans have always had a point about is that the Democratic party was the party of traitors and racists from 1877 to 1964. It was the party of the Solid South.
It is also disingenuous and an immature taunt. 1964 was the year that Goldwater infected the brains of the Republic party and they began their Southern Strategy. The evilness at the core of the Confederacy that was in living on the Democratic party transferred hosts.
This really isn’t important, but this rot has existed forever, as long as people have existed, and we all know it happens to be ascendant and have a grip on the Republicans today.
The key thing, the really key thing, is to remember this a not a fight against Republicans, per se. It is a fight against an eternal aspect of human nature that is being exploited by a small group to achieve personal wealth and power.
I see some angry diaries and it is understandable. We all have our better days and our worse days. This was an awful week.
But the adversary is chaos, division, anger, and hatred. It eats your heart, then it eats your brain, and it leaves you as a husk of a person. There are very old sayings that persist because of a deep underlying truth in them, and one is “turn the other cheek”. This of course was Jesus, and is in the book of Matthew. The full quote is
38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
The pathetic humiliation of the corrupted Religious Right in this country ignoring the plain and clear words of Jesus…
I’m not suggesting uncancelling Thanksgiving with MAGA family or unblocking them on Facebook. But do it to reduce bad feelings and avoid a fight, not for revenge.
The relentless fight for good can be done with love or hatred in your heart, please choose love.
