I am asking for advice. I cancelled my WaPo subscription, but it doesn’t become effective until October 2025. Unfortunately, my subscription had automatically renewed — at full price — just a couple of weeks before Bezos’s gross interference with the WaPo’s editorial department, so . . . .
Anyway, I’m at a loss as to what newspaper to subscribe to in its place. I live in South Carolina, so I would prefer a paper with a local or East Coast presence. I like the added value of information on relatively close events and places to visit. I would also like to reward a newspaper that was brave enough to endorse Kamala Harris. For whatever reason, I had a hard time Googling “newspapers that endorsed Kamala Harris” — only a couple showed up. A newspaper that at least has a long history of not endorsing any Presidential candidate — as opposed to one whose billionaire owners swooped in at the last minute to stop an editorial they disagreed with -- would be a second, but lesser, choice.
Although I am interested in recommendations for monthlies or magazines, I am first looking for a daily.
Any suggestions you have would be appreciated. I want a news source that is not afraid to speak truth to power.
