Matt Gaetz may have dropped out of the running for Attorney General, but the work continues at the House Ethics Committee on finishing the report.
The committee is having another meeting on Thursday, December 5th. The report will almost certainly come up.
The vote on whether to release the report was along party lines, requiring one Republican vote to make a majority.
The panel did vote to complete the report. It will be ready on Thursday. There could be another vote on releasing it.
When the committee refused to release the report as is, two Democratic Reps, Steve Cohen and Sean Casten moved to force votes on their separate resolutions to release the report.
Gaetz could still be appointed to a position in the Trump administration that doesn't require Senate confirmation. It could be a job important enough that the public should know the information in the report.
With a number of Republicans openly loathing Gaetz, a crossover vote is possible.
Speaker of the House Mike Johnson and House Ethics Committee Chairman Michael Guest are both against releasing the report since Gaetz is no longer a member of Congress and he has withdrawn his nomination for Attorney General.
