Bob Dylan on Jimmy Carter
Update #7 — 12:00 am ET
Rest in Peace, Mr. President
Update #1 — Added 8:15 pm ET
Jimmy Carter epitomized decency and will always be remembered for his dignity, compassion, service to others, and love of democracy. After he left office in 1981, he might have been the only American who could have been elected president by dozens of other countries except his own. His impeccable reputation and devotion to humanitarianism and fair play endeared him to hundreds of millions in this country and worldwide.
Update #6 — 10:45 pm ET
Cashing in on his tenure as President of the United States was somewhat alien to him. Such selfless acts may not get much recognition in the commercial environment we live in nowadays. Still, historians—who record such events for posterity—will regard them as one of Jimmy Carter’s defining achievements.
You will be missed, Mr. President.

Carter wrote that “The bond of our common humanity is stronger than the divisiveness of our fears and prejudices. God gives us the capacity for choice. We can choose to alleviate suffering. We can choose to work together for peace. We can make these changes – and we must”.

So Long, Mr. President… You Did Good in Life
“Former President Jimmy Carter, a man who redefined what a post-presidency could be, died Sunday. He was 100,” the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.
“The only Georgian ever elected to the White House, Carter left office after a single term that was highlighted by forging peace between Israel and Egypt, but was overshadowed by the Iran hostage crisis.“
Washington Post: “As the nation’s 39th president, he governed with strong Democratic majorities in Congress but in a country that was growing more conservative. Four years after taking office, Mr. Carter lost his bid for reelection, in a landslide, to one of the most conservative political figures of the era, Ronald Reagan.”
New York Times: “[H]e also signed a strategic arms limitation agreement with the Soviet Union and helped forge the Camp David Accords between Egypt and Israel. Mr. Carter cemented his legacy with a deeper engagement in public affairs than any other former president of modern times and was awarded the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize.”
Axios notes Carter has often been called the “nation’s greatest former president” for the humanitarian work he conducted in his more than four decades after Washington.
