Good Day, Gnusies and Happy Tuesday!
The past week was a tiring one for me with a number of very time-consuming, labor-intensive chores to deal with. And when I get really tired, that’s when my optimism slips to its lowest ebb, too, especially if there is bad news, like that stupid Supreme Court ruling in Alabama.
CG says: Let’s be brave like dragons!
I was starting to feel anxiety rising due to yet more proof that Republicans will not stop until they have women utterly reduced to breeding livestock/domestic servitude. So, I decided to look for news that might tell me it was not all as bad as it sounded. And although Rs are ALWAYS as bad or worse than they sound, the truth is that a solid majority of Americans do not support these vicious, oppressive and anti-freedom policies.
After 2016, some people fear that what once was “unthinkable” could happen — again. Those fears are understandable and certainly we will have to do everything we can to make sure that TFG’s criminality and profound unfitness for office is kept in the public consciousness relentlessly (as well as the unfitness of the Putin/TFG backing Republican party).
But it is also important to remind ourselves that nobody who did not want TFG in 2016 or 2020 is going to decide in 2024 to vote for that loser now . In addition, many independents who kidded themselves that maybe a vote for TFG would bring the kind of disruption and change they were thirsty for and at least do no real harm, and the protest voters who pretended that throwing away their votes on Jill Stein or the Libertarian party had no ill effects on the country cannot pretend any more that anything other than a vote for Joe Biden and the Democrats is a benign thing.
We will hammer that point home all year and in addition make sure that people cannot pretend not to know that the Republican party is anti-women, anti-bodily autonomy and anti-democracy.
Solid majorities support reproductive freedom and democracy. Including a majority of Republicans! People are waking up to the reality of what they have to lose if they don’t vote against these fascist Republicans.
And that is how I know that TFG will not win in November. The Republican party will not win, either.
If we keep on message — relentlessly, repetitively, righteously! — and work like honeybees to GOTV, then November 2024 may very well be a pivotal year in American history and the beginning of a new era of progress.
That’s a goal I think is worth almost any amount of effort and sacrifice! Let’s do this, Gnusies!
Joe and the Dems Deliver
This first story’s hopeful goal will obviously depend on the principal actors in the conflict. Nevertheless, Joe Biden and his team are working hard to try to broker a peace deal:
Biden says there could be a cease-fire in Gaza by Monday. Talks are still ongoing, NPR, February 26, 2024.
President Biden on Monday told reporters that he is optimistic that talks on a potential cease-fire in the Gaza Strip were close to reaching a deal that he hoped could be announced by next Monday.
"My national security adviser tells me that we're close," Biden told reporters who asked him when he expected a cease-fire would begin.
"We're not done yet. And my hope is by next Monday, we'll have a cease-fire," he said.
Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday that negotiators from the United States, Israel, Egypt and Qatar had reached an understanding on the outlines of a temporary cease-fire in Gaza in order to free Israeli hostages held by Hamas and allow more aid to enter Gaza.
Biden’s policies helped reduce CO2 emissions in 2023
Current Climate: CO2 Emissions Fall—But There’s A Long Way To Go, Alan Ohnsman and Amy Feldman, Forbes, February 26, 2024.
Much of the news around climate change is disappointing, but last year the U.S. pulled off a promising accomplishment: greenhouse gas pollution fell even as the economy grew. That’s the finding of a new report by the Business Council for Sustainable Energy and BloombergNEF, which estimates that net CO2 emissions dropped 1.8% from 2022 levels while GDP rose 2.4%. Much of the credit goes to the continuing replacement of coal power with natural gas, but rapid growth in renewable energy was also key. A record 42 gigawatts of renewable power, mainly from solar projects, was added to the U.S. grid last year, helping renewables account for a record 23% of electricity demand. To ensure that such power’s available when the sun doesn’t shine and the wind isn’t blowing, a record 7.5 gigawatts of battery storage was also added.
That’s the kind of result the Biden Administration is hoping to see with the big budget cleantech policies it enacted. “We know that the clean energy transition is already hard-wired into the U.S. economy, but recent federal policies have proven to be an important asset in accelerating technology deployment amid a turbulent market,” said Lisa Jacobson, president of the BCSE.
Thanks to Biden’s pro-labor support, unions are expanding organizing effort
The Auto Workers Go All In, Harold Meyerson, The American Prospect, February 26, 2024.
In going all in to organize the nation’s Volkswagen, Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, Tesla, and other factories, the UAW executive board had three good reasons to think their union could overcome what has been this most daunting of obstacles.
First, as a result of the pro-worker rulings from President Biden’s National Labor Relations Board, many of the legally dubious union suppression strategies that companies commonly employ are now far from foolproof. ✂️
Second, both Gallup and Pew polls show that the level of public support for unions hasn’t been this high since the 1960s, particularly among the young, who are well represented in workforces of the factories that the UAW is targeting.
Third, the UAW has just come off an almost breathtakingly victorious strike with the three big legacy automakers: General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis.✂️
(The successful strike) stamped the UAW’s efforts and its successes in the public’s consciousness more than any strike has in decades. It thereby compelled the non-union automakers to raise their workers’ wages, as they understood that their employees knew what the UAW had delivered for its members.
Joe has vast grassroots support
How the Biden Team Plans to Exploit Trump’s Big Cash Problem, Jake Lahut, Daily Beast, February 23, 2024.
“It’s historic. It’s the largest war chest for a Democrat in history, so in terms of a big deal, it’s a BFD,” a source close to the Biden campaign said, invoking Biden’s now-famous hot mic moment from when he was vice president.
Voter outreach and campaign ads are two key fronts the Biden team has identified as weaknesses for Trump, the source close to the Biden campaign said. They see their cash advantage as a way to start off the general election season strong and outlast Trump through a war of financial attrition.
“If you look at these filings, I don’t know if there’s any indication the Trump team is doing anything,” the source close to the Biden campaign said. “We are building state staff, we are doing paid media, we are doing brick and mortar, we are doing actual voter outreach—all of the fundamentals of a presidential campaign, none of which you can say Trump is doing.”
For Biden allies, the cash advantage is a much-needed, slow-burning morale boost.
“Their war chest is unprecedented in the Democratic Party, and it’s fueled by grassroots support,” Messina said.“This is real money going to building a general election campaign. Trump is lighting his money fire for nothing that matters to voters.”

🤬😩 Republicans in Disarray 😫😡
TFG will not be POTUS again
Donald Trump's dominating GOP primary performance doesn't add up, Heather Digby Parton, Salon, February 26, 2024.
Donald Trump can't win the general election with just his hardcore MAGA base. He must expand his coalition and he's not getting that done. In every state so far, he has underperformed expectations. Nevada was a very weird situation with both a primary and a caucus so it's hard to discern what the electorate was saying there but in Iowa, New Hampshire and S. Carolina, a solid 40% voted against Trump. It's a primary so that's not unusual. But who makes up that 40% is a problem for Trump. He's completely lost self-identified liberals which isn't surprising. But moderates have abandoned him as well, along with the GOP-leaning independents. And the ongoing shedding of college educated and suburban voters has not abated.
It doesn't matter so much in the MAGA-centric GOP primary, but Trump cannot afford to lose those voters in the general election. His numbers aren't adding up. He dominates rural America but that's it, as Axios put it:
If America were dominated by old, white, election-denying Christians who didn't go to college, former President Trump would win the general election in as big of a landslide as his sweep of the first four GOP contests.
Fortunately, that is not a majority of American voters.
text: you look at this and the fact that 40% of every GOP primary vote so far has gone against him, and it sure looks like the wrong party is wringing its hands and despairing about being stuck with the wrong presumptive nominee to win a presidential election
TFG is cutting off his own (potential) voters
The next headline is confusing. The cheering Republicans were a crowd of Nikki Haley supporters and they were cheering her, not TFG. Those supporters are being turned away by TFG because he is a malignant narcissist whose overweening ego will not let him be conciliatory toward people he feels slighted him, even though to do so would be in his interest. This is an example of predictable (self-destructive) behavior that is down to the personality disorder. There will be more of this sort of thing, because TFG cannot help himself.
'Barred permanently from MAGA': Republican crowd cheers as Trump threatens to oust them, David Edwards. Raw Story, February 26, 2024.
Following her loss in the South Carolina primary, Haley used a new line of attack in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on Monday. She argued Trump was transforming the Republican Party.
"The problem is chaos literally follows him," she explained. "He said anyone who supported me was barred permanently from MAGA."
Haley paused while the crowd cheered.
"Now think about that," she continued. "If you're running for president, your job is to bring as many people to you as possible, not push people out."
"This is about what Donald Trump is doing to the Republican Party."
No, Black Americans will not vote for TFG in large numbers
Just tell the D&G brigade to stop spewing that nonsense. 😒
Opinion Donald Trump’s con-man hustle for the Black vote is not going to work, Eugene Robinson, Washington Post, February 26, 2024.
Donald Trump’s con-man hustle for the African American vote is cringeworthy, cynical, infuriating, insulting, racist, super-racist — take your pick. Just don’t call it sincere. And don’t expect it to work. ✂️
TFG’s personality disorder works against him now as the pressure builds
Some aspects of TFGs malignant narcissism helped him consolidate power in the past (lacking a conscience, especially), but other features of the incurable disorder will now send him on a downward spiral. He won’t be able to stop himself from lashing out — even at people who could help him — and he won’t be able to stop himself from continuing to commit crimes. He won’t be able to stop himself from reacting to perceived slights, even when attacking people he thinks slighted him can come back to bite him bigly. In short, TFG will ultimately take himself down. Although the forces of justice will succeed in due course, I think TFG will speed things up with his uncontrollable malignant narcissistic decompensating.
TFG’s declining state of mind is more evident every day; and the only people who continue to support him are the MAGA crowd. That’s not enough support to win the election, luckily.
Trump's CPAC speech showed clear signs of major cognitive decline — yet MAGA cheered, Chauncey DeVega, Salon, February 26, 2024.
Sure, there could be other forms of cognitive decline, but the NPD alone can account for much of TFG’s behavior.
During his CPAC speech, Trump continued with his often incoherent and confused way of speaking, rambling(s), memory lapses, and extreme tangents. Trump defended his apparent speech challenges, saying that, “And by the way, isn't this better than reading off a fricking teleprompter…'They'll say: he rambled. Nobody can ramble like this….Probably I won't get the best speaker this year because I went off this stupid teleprompter.”
Trump’s CPAC speech appears to be further evidence of what psychiatrist John Gartner concluded “appears to be ... gross signs of dementia. This is a tale of two brains. Biden's brain is aging. Trump's brain is dementing.”
However, one must be cautious and understand that Trump’s apparent mental, emotional, and overall cognitive decline, and other indications of a damaged mind, are largely irrelevant to his followers. Donald Trump is a symbol more than a man. His MAGA people and other loyalists and voters ignore, reconcile, and more generally make sense of Trump’s apparent cognitive and speech difficulties by telling themselves that he is “just like them” and “speaks a language they can understand” because he is “authentic” and “not a traditional politician." By definition, the Dear Leader is infallible. Fake right-wing populism can be bent and shaped to accommodate any absurdity.
That MAGA crowd included literal nazis (and NO, most Americans are not ok with that)
Seriously: NBC News Shows Receipts After CPAC Denies Nazis Mingled at Conference, Justin Baragona, Daily Beast, February 26, 2024.
The organizers behind the Conservative Political Action Conference denied an NBC News story about neo-Nazis openly mingling at the annual confab, branding the report “false” and “fake news” while touting the group’s pro-Israel stance.
However, following the right-wing organization’s repeated denials, NBC News reporter Ben Goggin posted video and photographic evidence of prominent white supremacists attending last week’s event—including one openly giving a Nazi salute. CPAC did not respond to The Daily Beast’s request for comment.
Despite CPAC leader Matt Schlapp’s threat to deny press passes to mainstream and left-leaning media outlets, Goggin was credentialed and reported from the conference that “racist extremists” had “secured official CPAC badges” and “openly mingled with conference attendees and espoused antisemitic conspiracy theories.”
The NBC report further noted that attendees included Greg Gonte, a Richard Spencer ally who was part of the deadlyUnite the Right Rally in Charlottesville; Ryan Sanchez, a former member of the neo-Nazi Rise Above Movement; and Jared Taylor, founder of the white supremacist website American Renaissance.
“At the Young Republican mixer Friday evening, a group of Nazis who openly identified as national socialists mingled with mainstream conservative personalities, including some from Turning Point USA, and discussed so-called ‘race science’ and antisemitic conspiracy theories,” Goggin wrote.
We know exactly what we are up against with MAGA. And we know what we need to do — GOTV, stick to the simple reasons why MAGA and Republicans seek to destroy democracy and your freedom — let’s go!
🎶 Motivational Music 🎶
Courts are doing their part to bring TFG to justice
Wheels slow, grind fine. 🤞🏼⚖️ Frustrating, but swifter “justice” without due process is unAmerican.
'Imminent threat': Judge urged to hit Trump with yet another gag order, Sky Palma, Raw Story, February 26, 2024.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has requested that Trump be barred from making statements about potential witnesses, prospective jurors and prosectors related to the case, the Associated Press reported.
The judge overseeing the case, Juan Manuel Merchan, has not yet issued a ruling on the request.
As the AP points out, Trump was already issued a gag order in his D.C. election interference case back in October — an order that has largely been upheld by a federal appeals panel, though it minimized the speech restrictions, saying Trump was allowed to criticize the special counsel who brought the case.
He was also subject to a gag order controlling he said about Judge Arthur Engoron's staff in the New York fraud case. That order was put in place after repeated attacks on Engoron's court clerk, and was upheld on appeal.
Silver linings, hur hur hur 🫤
Jack Smith has new ammo to fire at Trump in classified docs case: filing, Matthew Chapman, Raw Story, February 26, 2024.
Hur's report, which concluded with no charges after investigating documents that were found at Biden's Delaware home and University of Pennsylvania office, attracted political attention for its attacks on Biden's age and memory. Less discussed was the fact that Hur, a Trump appointee, said Biden's conduct wasn't nearly as serious as the former president's.
Trump stands accused of breaking federal law by storing dozens of boxes of highly classified national defense information at his country club in South Florida, court records show.
In a new filing, Smith responds to moves by Trump and his co-defendants to collect evidence they believe will prove they've been the victims of a "selective prosecution."
Smith uses the Hur Report to counter their demands.
"The defendants have not identified anyone who has engaged in a remotely similar suite of willful and deceitful criminal conduct and not been prosecuted," wrote Smith in his new filing. "For example, their primary competitor is Joseph R. Biden ... But as the Hur Report itself recognizes, 'several material distinctions between Mr. Trump's case and Mr. Biden's are clear.'
🚨😱😫😩🚨
The reality of TFG’s weakness and unfitness is adding to the stress and pressure within the Republican party. They are in panic mode, turning on each other and sounding alarms all over the place. Good.
'That is a problem': Fox News conservative warns viewers about Trump's weakness, Brad Reed, Raw Story, February 26, 2024.
“This is a unique election in the sense that we have basically two incumbents," he said. "So how did Joe Biden do in South Carolina? 96.2 percent of the vote. Donald Trump got 60 percent and four in ten voters in the Republican Party so no, even though they know that this race is pretty much over, that he's going to be the nominee. They still voted against him!"
Thiessen went on to explain why it would be dangerous to brush this trend off, especially since Haley also won more than 40 percent of the vote in New Hampshire as well.
"That is a problem," he said. "Because he said that this is the most united Republican Party he's ever seen and it is not the most united Republican Party. And 59 percent of those Haley voters say they're not voting for him!"
Exhibit A of TFG driving out people who could help him
Now Lara Trump and confederates will drive the RNC into the ground. Bad for TFG and the Rs, good for democracy and the USA.
Disarray: RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel announces her resignation, Allan Smith and Megan Lebowitz, NBC, February 26, 2024.
McDaniel's decision followed Saturday's South Carolina primary and came less than two weeks after Trump endorsed North Carolina GOP chairman Michael Whatley to be the next chairman of the RNC, his daughter-in-law Lara Trump to be co-chair and top campaign aide Chris LaCivita to be the party’s chief operating officer.
In a statement, McDaniel said it had been an "honor and privilege" to serve as chairwoman for seven years.
Republicans’ fears will prove well-founded
"Trump is out of money": Republicans fear Trump will drain RNC funds to pay his own legal bills, Tatyana Tandanpolie, Salon, February 15, 2024.
A crop of senior GOP officials fear that Donald Trump's effort to pack the Republican National Committee with his preferred picks could give way to the former president using the RNC to cover his legal bills — again. Their worries come on the heels of Trump's endorsements earlier this week of his daughter-in-law, among other allies, to assume leadership roles at the committee. "While those endorsements have been well-received by many committee members — who note that it is customary for a presidential candidate to put his imprint on the party’s main campaign apparatus — others fear a potential misallocation of party resources," Politico reports. ✂️
Lara Trump this week vowed that "every penny" at the RNC would go toward helping Trump.
Bloomberg reported on Wednesday that Trump is on pace to drain his war chest for his legal fees this summer after already spending more than $50 million on legal bills.
"Trump is out of money which is why he is going hard at Ronna Romney so he can take over the RNC treasury," tweeted former Trump White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci.

Michigan Rs in chaos
'Warning signs' for Trump in Michigan: CNN analyst, Tom Boggioni, Raw Story, February 26, 2024.
Dark clouds gathering over the Republican party
and its dear leader.
"How do Haley supporters feel about Trump?" he said while using a large graphic display. "Look at this: 18 percent, only 18 percent have a favorable view [of Trump]. The vast majority of Haley's supporters do not like Donald Trump — 75 percent! Convincing these folks to vote for Donald Trump in the general may be an uphill climb, especially John, if there's a conviction."
Pointing to a separate graphic, he continued, "Trump unfit for the presidency if convicted. In South Carolina in the exit poll, it was 36 percent in New Hampshire, it was 42 percent. In Iowa, a state where Trump won his widest margin, at least in states where Niki Haley was on the ballot, it was 31 percent."
"So the fact is, John, there are warning signs for Trump going towards a general election," he excitedly exclaimed. "Yes, he's doing very well in the primary so far, but come the general, especially if he's convicted of a crime, it might get rather dicey rather quickly."
The Michigan Republican party is already in chaos. What will the week bring? Alice Herman, the Guardian, February 26, 2024.
Trump is expected to beat Haley definitively in Tuesday’s primary. The primary margins and turnout will be telling, however – especially in traditionally Republican areas that have shifted away from the GOP during the Trump era, like parts of western Michigan and Detroit’s more upscale suburbs.
But the real chaos isn’t for the primary – it’s for the state convention that is scheduled a few days later. Or, to be more precise, the state party conventions: right now, two warring factions have scheduled their own meetings, and it’s not totally clear which meeting’s delegates will count towards the presidential nomination.
The Michigan Republican party is holding a separate caucus on 2 March to comply with Republican National Committee rules after Michigan’s Democrat-controlled state legislature moved the state’s primary date earlier than the RNC permitted. The winner of Tuesday’s primary will earn only 30% of the state’s delegates – party activists who vote at the Republican national convention to nominate the presidential candidate – while 70% will be chosen at a state party convention on Saturday.
Chaos within the state party has further complicated that plan.
Reproductive Rights will sink Republicans, Too, Quite Rightly!
Look at these numbers. Voters — even R voters — see what the party of Putin is trying to do to their Reproductive rights and they do not like it! Just wait for Roevember, Republicans! FAFO
Republican Opposition to Birth Control Bill Could Alienate Voters, Poll Finds, Annie Karni, New York Times, February 26, 2024.
One month after the Supreme Court struck down the right to an abortion, Democrats who then controlled the House pushed through a bill aimed to ensure access to contraception nationwide. All but eight Republicans opposed it.
That vote two years ago, opposing legislation that would protect the right to purchase and use contraception without government restriction, may come back to haunt Republicans in November, as they seek to keep hold of their slim majority at a time when real fears about reproductive rights threaten to drive voters away from them. ✂️
A new national poll conducted by Americans for Contraception and obtained by The New York Times found that most voters across the political spectrum believe their access to birth control is actively at risk, and that 80 percent of voters said that protecting access to contraception was “deeply important” to them. Even among Republican voters, 72 percent said they had a favorable view of birth control.
When voters were told that 195 House Republicans had voted against the Right to Contraception Act, 64 percent of them said they would be less likely to support Republican candidates for Congress, according to the poll. And overall, the issue of protecting access to contraception bolstered voters’ preference for Democrats by nine points, giving them a 12-point edge over Republicans, up from three.
