A presidential candidate — a former president! — is under a gag order that prohibits him from continuing to publicly attack family members of the judge presiding over the candidate’s trial for paying hush money to a porn star weeks before the 2016 election. Last week, this candidate was selling branded Bibles online.
This is our new normal.
On Easter Sunday, that same candidate unleashed a torrent of all-caps diatribes on social media, slandering and threatening his perceived enemies, proclaiming his unique victimhood, and vowing retribution for the extremely unfair “witch hunt” against him when he returns to office after November’s election.

Also last week, on Good Friday, this candidate shared a video on social media that included an image of President Joe Biden, who is 81 years old, hog-tied in the back of a pickup truck. The pickup truck is flying a U.S. flag with a blue stripe, which is supposed to represent support for police officers, presumably including the officers attacked and injured during the violent attempted insurrection in the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
This is our new normal.
A poll from less than two months ago shows that 45% of registered voters in the U.S. would vote for this presidential candidate — even if he is convicted on criminal charges in any of the four cases for which this person is being tried. That’s right, nearly half of American voters would be fine with having a felon in the White House.

Well, fuck our new normal. We cannot and must not tolerate the insanity and thuggery perpetuated against democracy and decent Americans by Donald Trump. Trump and his gutless, grasping MAGA minions in the GOP are attempting to remake America to reflect the insurrectionist-in-chief’s darkly grotesque psyche.
It simply is intolerable. Our nation’s future and the world we leave to our children are at stake. The danger of this new normal is real, and the time to stand up against this dire threat to democracy is now.
Pay attention, donate to democracy-defending candidates, speak out against lies, and vote. We don’t have to accept the new normal.
