Raúl Grijalva, a long-serving Democratic Member of the U.S. Congress from Arizona's 7th District, has announced that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Here's the statement from his office. In part:
“A few weeks ago, I sought medical treatment for a persistent cough which was initially diagnosed as pneumonia. After further testing and imaging, my physician discovered that I have cancer.”
I hope he's okay. Above all for his sake and the sake of his family and friends, obviously. But I won't deny that I'm also concerned by the political implications.
Addendum: It should be noted that this is not about Rubén Gallego, another admirable Democratic politician from Arizona who is currently running for the U.S. Senate. My apologies for the lack of clarity.
