Downballot primaries continue tonight with races in Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina, and West Virginia! Polls close at 7:30 PM ET in North Carolina and West Virginia, followed by Maryland at 8 PM ET and Nebraska at 9 PM ET.

Baltimore Mayor (D): It’s not over yet, but the headwinds have become pretty clear for former Mayor Sheila Dixon. With over half the vote counted, incumbent Mayor Brandon Scott has pulled out to a ten-point edge (51-41). Feels like an AP call here is inevitable for Scott, who will quite clearly be an overwhelming favorite in November in one of the bluest cities in America.

And...with that...we’re hearing the orchestra playing us off the stage. Anchorage is still to come tonight (well, actually, early tomorrow morning), but with the likelihood that the votes will not be fully tallied until tomorrow, you can check back with Daily Kos Elections then for all the details. In the meantime, we take a few Tuesdays off before roaring back into our primary coverage on June 4th, when states as diverse as New Jersey and Montana (along with Iowa, South Dakota, and New Mexico) take center stage. MD-03 (D)/WV-Gov (R): Two very different primaries in very different locales have both just been called within seconds of each other by the Associated Press. The AP has called the Democratic primary to replace retiring Rep. John Sarbanes for state Senator Sarah Elfreth, who has defeated Capitol police officer Harry Dunn. And, in West Virginia, the AP has called the gubernatorial primary in the open seat race to replace current Governor (and newly minted Senate nominee) Jim Justice, declaring that Patrick Morrisey will be the winner.

MD-06 (D): The AP has called this race for April McClain Delaney, who has maintained a double-digit edge over state legislator Joe Vogel for the entirety of the evening, and still leads him by a 40-26 margin with about a third of the vote tallied.

Baltimore Mayor: In one of two mayoral races that we are watching closely tonight (the other is all the way across the continent in Anchorage, Alaska), incumbent Mayor Brandon Scott has finally broken what had been a logjam at the front of the field most of the night. He has edged out to a 49-42 lead over former Mayor Sheila Dixon who is attempting yet another political comeback after resigning the office back in 2010.

Maryland: A quick update on the key House primaries here.

• MD-06: The Republican primary was just called for 2022 nominee (and former state legislator) Neil Parrott, who was an easy winner over Dan Cox, who was last seen getting obliterated by Wes Moore in the 2022 gubernatorial race. On the Democratic side, April McClain Delaney still leads young state legislator Joe Vogel by a 15-point margin.
• MD-03: In the open seat race to replace veteran Rep. John Sarbanes, state Senator Sarah Elfreth continues to hold a consistent lead over Capitol police officer Harry Dunn. With about a third of the vote in, Elfreth leads Dunn by a 40-26 margin.

Around two hours into our May 14th primary coverage, and we already have our headline for the night, and what a pleasant headline it is, indeed:

• MD-Sen (D): In the past few minutes, the Associated Press has projected that Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks has defeated the exceedingly well-funded campaign of Rep. David Trone. With just shy of half the vote tallied, Alsobrooks leads Trone by a 53-43 margin, a raw vote edge of 33,000 votes and growing as more E-Day vote has been tallied. Alsobrooks will now face former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan in November.
• MD-02 (D): In far more expected news, Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski has easily won the primary to replace outgoing Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, and will be a favorite to keep this seat in Democratic hands this November.
• WV-Sen (R): As was largely expected, two-term Gov. Jim Justice waltzed to an easy primary win over Rep. Alex Mooney, who tried to make hay of Justice’s distant political past as a Democrat (Justice switched parties seven years ago). Voters in the Mountain State were unfazed, as Justice cruised to victory by a 62-26 margin.
• WV-01/WV-02 (R): At the House level, it was comparably easy primary wins for Rep. Carol Miller in WV-01, and state treasurer Riley Moore in the open seat battle to replace Mooney in WV-02.
• WV-Gov (R): The only uncalled major race in West Virginia is the open seat primary to replace Justice as Governor. State Attorney General Patrick Morrisey leads former legislator Moore Capito (the son of the Senator) by a 33-28 margin, with about 90% of the vote tallied.
• NE-02 (R): In an anticlimactic race, Dan Frei (who nearly scored an upset here over an incumbent back in 2014) was no match for Rep. Don Bacon, who has defeated the challenger by a 2-to-1 margin.
