As an act of supreme arrogance on my part, here is my take on the “should Biden step down because of his debate performance” controversy.
Biden’s “performance” at the debate and any subsequent appearances that didn’t show him as having 8-pack abs and an IQ of 190 are largely irrelevant.
I’d vote for a cardboard box missing the top and one side and that’s covered with nasty stains of an unknown origin before I’d vote for Trump.
For one thing, a cardboard box can’t hurt me or my daughter or any woman my son cares about or the LGBTQ people I love (or the ones I don’t even know), or immigrants or refugees or people of color or Jews or Muslims or Hindus or Buddhists or the “wrong” kind of Christians or atheists or scientists or federal workers or union members . . . or . . . or . . .
The creation and use of the box (including shipping) probably had an overall negative impact on the environment, but nothing like the impact of another four (?) years of stupid, pig-headed, knee-jerk, blind, corrupt opposition to dealing with climate change.
The box can't grift and steal from me as a taxpayer.
The box can’t make me enraged by dismissing the sacrifices of my family members who served their country during both World Wars. They were patriots who showed up, not suckers and losers, Mr. Bone Spurs.
The box can’t mortify me as a representative of my country as one of the most intellectually incurious, ignorant people I’ve ever seen or read about. I don’t have to listen to its enragingly stupid and blatantly lying comments delivered in The World’s Most Annoying Voice.
The box won’t piss off genuine allies and suck up to murderous dictators.
The box won’t encourage my fellow citizens’ worst bigotries. It won’t demagogue them into fear and hatred of the other people who live in the country with them.
The box won’t eviscerate public education and destroy critical thinking and ignore or mock science or twist history for its own malevolent ends.
I could keep coming up with more and more reasons to vote for the cardboard box, but you get the idea.
