The political consequences of this unpatriotic act of political violence are still being decided. However, it serves more than anything to draw a contrast between the two candidates as to how they handle acts of political violence. The contrast is striking. It is impossible to deny. One of these men is a President. One is simply not. Look at how each of these two candidates for office reacted in the face of political violence against the opposition party.
When it comes to questions such as basic human decency, there is no comparison. One candidate actively foments political violence and acts in the most unpatriotic, amoral, and frankly un-american way possible. The other simply does not.
One of the candidates chose to temporarily pull TV advertising to bring the country together and avoid politicizing a national tragedy.
The other candidate is actively fundraising and campaigning the day after an act of political violence. Not only that, but rather than simply condemn violence against a political opponent, he even was an active participant in spreading conspiracy theories about the victim.
One of these men is running to be President of all Americans. The other simply is not. If you are not a wealthy, white, evangelical, gun-owning male, you’re simply not part of TFG’s ‘Real America’. It is this side-by side view that will shape the political message flowing out of the events of the past few days.
