Republicans removed language about banning abortion from their platform in an attempt appear less radical. While this was intended to appease moderate voters, it infuriated evangelicals. But Ed Martin, one of the top three on the 2024 Republican National Convention’s Committee on the Platform, has assured his audience on his Pro America Report radio show that, yes, the platform really does call for a national ban on abortion.
“It’s got protections for pro-life. Don’t let anybody tell you there’s not protections for pro-life,” Martin said. “There’s not as many words describing it, but there’s protection under the Constitution, that life is protected.”
While removing the words “national abortion ban” has fooled media outlets into reporting that the RNC has “softened” it’s position on abortion, Martin confirmed that the language has merely been disguised. Instead of directly calling for an abortion ban, the platform call for legislation to establish fetal personhood, which would then give fetuses equal protection under 14th Amendement, thus establishing a de facto abortion ban.
The platform still calls for banning “late-term abortion”, which it doesn’t define, and which is not a thing among medical doctors. But Martin is happy to share his definition:
I call a late term abortion any abortion that is done after the baby is conceived
Republicans must not be allowed to get away with disguising their intentions with “softer” language. The GOP is clearly committed to a national abortion ban, and the guy in charge of the platform just said so. Voter need to know this. We can’t let them get away with this deception.
