Arkansas official rejected valid abortion ballot signatures, lawsuit claims

“Organizers behind a ballot measure to enshrine abortion rights into the Arkansas state constitution sued a senior state official on Tuesday, accusing him of illegally rejecting the signatures they submitted in support of putting the measure on the November ballot.”
““We are reviewing the lawsuit and would have no further comment at this time,” Chris Powell, press secretary for the Arkansas secretary of state, said in an email.”

I’ve read the lawsuit. It isn’t that dense. Pretty understandable really.
According to the law the Arkansas Supreme Court is the first and only point of adjudication. So the lawsuit goes directly to the Arkansas Supreme Court for expedited action.

After a whole bunch of details they ask for this.
6. Order that, if proceedings in this action have not terminated in time for the full certification and correction process to occur before the deadline to certify initiatives for the November 2024 ballot, then the Secretary must certify the Amendment for the November 2024 General Election ballot; and
7. Provide any other just and proper relief the Court deems necessary.
So they are asking the court to place the amendment on the ballot if Secretary Of State Thurston continues lollygagging around. Running out the clock may not be an option for him.

If you live in Arkansas and you haven’t registered to vote please do that now. If you don’t know how to register go to the AFLG website at arliberty.org. They will help you get registered to vote. We will need you to vote on the amendment after the signatures are counted and it gets on the ballot. (Speaking optimistically)

There’s a reason why Republicans are doing this. If the amendments are put on the ballot they will pass. Republicans know this but they don’t care about voter’s rights any more than they care about abortion rights.
