I’ve been on dKos for over 20 years. Biden can count on my vote. Biden knows that Biden can count on my vote. Markos knows that I’m voting, and that I’m voting blue. You know it too.
I know that you are voting. And, unless you are some weird Republican who gets their jollies reading stuff on Kos, you are voting blue, too. If you *are* some kind of weird Republican who gets their jollies reading stuff on Kos, your vote isn’t in play, either.
If you’re here, this election isn’t about you.
Here’s the math:
The people who are going to vote FOR Trump are going to vote for him anyway.
The people who are going to vote AGAINST Trump are going to vote against him anyway.
The people who are going to vote FOR Biden are going to vote for him anyway.
The people who are going to vote AGAINST Biden are going to vote against him anyway.
There exists a tiny fraction of people WHO ARE ACTUALLY GOING TO VOTE who do not fit into any of those categories. I mean, I dont understand it; but, it is almost certainly true.
For a fraction of THOSE people, Biden having COVID and Kamala being a heartbeat away, *that* is an issue. Whether *I* like it or not, there are people in this country who are racist and/or sexist and/or antisemitic, and Kamala Harris ticks all three of those boxes being a Black woman married to a Jewish man. Then there are people who hate Indians (East Asian Indians), too, because of the H1-B thing; and, there's another "and/or" to throw into the mix.
I mean, maybe there are some people where I/P is the whole reason they are voting, and who are ok with Biden but not with Harris. There might be people who vote against the entire ticket because of the VP’s [genitals|husband|skin color|ancestry], where Biden’s age really is a show-stopper *because* Harris. I don’t understand that, but it isn’t for us to say. It is true, and whether it is a big number or a tiny number, you cannot say that the number is 0.
Maybe they didn’t really care before Biden got COVID. Maybe they cared last time when their dad had COVID, but dad isn’t here any more, and so maybe it matters more to them that Joe has it.
We don’t know.
And, in this particular situation, you can't just assume that you’re going to reach those people by assuring them that a sick Joe isn’t going to die and leave the presidency to someone they hate on spec.
I *wish* it weren't so; but a few thousand votes in Georgia or Arizona could make the difference in this election.
*That* tiny itsybitsy sliver of America will decide our next President. And, given the lives on the line in this election, that is a whole lot of power over a whole lot of people in a Very Small Number of Hands.
So, if it really matters that Gavin or Pete or Elizabeth or Bernie is on the ticket instead of Biden *or* Harris, then, yeah, let it be so.
I don’t care. I’m voting blue anyway.
But this isn’t about me.
Stop making this about anything other than simple electoral math.
