As D-Kos staff points out, I conflated two scenarios into one.
In my haste to post a plea that the ticket remains intact, I inadvertently distorted the intentions of the high-profile names I mentioned.
That was not my intent.
I think the appeals that Joe drop his bid (I oppose!) are a show of weakness, but not as egregiously stupid as resigning would be.
I understand some high-profile names are weighing in on the “Let’s put Joe out to pasture” nonsense.
Have any of them considered the possibility of Joe surviving Kamala?
These are not pleasant topics to consider, but let’s say Joe resigns this week and the Harris-(Gretchen) Whitmer or Harris-(Josh) Shapiro ticket is quickly put together in time for the… no wait… did I say “quickly”?
25A Section 2: Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
How many here think the MAGA House is going to help freshly minted POTUS Harris get a VP before Election Day (or even Inauguration Day) when “Speaker Mike” is next in the line of succession?
How long before Mitch McConnell says: “This close to the election, the people should decide!”
But never mind that, let’s pretend that the House somehow confirms a new VP.
Then in late September or early October, Kamala has a serious heart attack.
Fatal or not, how are we feeling then that Joe is still healthy, sitting on the sidelines but can’t do anything?
This is a stupid debate, even more stupid idea, and only offers LESS than what we already have.
No, I don’t know more about politics or campaigning than Schiff, Pelosi, Schumer, Jeffries and Obama.
I don’t know more about presenting a public image than George Clooney.
But I know 100% is better than 50-ish% (no shade intended towards either Whitmer or Shapiro!)
Keep Biden-Harris intact!
