The dynamics have changed. You can feel it.
Since 2016, on any given day, the odds are pretty good that the news media is talking about Trump for about 23 hours. He sucks all the air out of the room. It is all-Trump-all-the-time.
No, ever since Biden bowed out and endorsed Harris, it has been all-Harris-all-the-time.
There is a new thing. A new phenomenon. And the media has noticed.
Since 2016, the media has talked about whatever Trump has wanted them to. But, not this week. Trump isn’t controlling the narrative. And the media has noticed that, too.
Voters normally don't wake up until after Labor Day. Well. They're awake now. And, now, this election season is a month-and-a-half longer than normal. And that means more voters are paying attention, and, Trump isn't going to be quiet about the late great Hannibal Lecter, or his chopped word salad with hate vinagrette.
Whereas, Harris has nowhere to go but up. The next news cycles are hers to direct. Her narrative. Her schedule. What she thinks is important. Her drawing distinctions between prosecutor and felon. Then, her vp pick. Then the convention. The airways are hers for the next month. And a month is a Very Long Time in politics. And, unless he can figure a way to get it back, it is going to stay that way. And, come on, he’s already been shot. What else can he do to grab the attention back to himself?
The Republicans run on hate and fear. BUT they don't want the hate and fear directed at THEM, they want it directed at whoever-they-point-to, whether MuslimAmericans after 9/11, or queers, or Black people, or those Hispanics who are coming for your jobs (like the Blacks of yesteryear were coming for your daughters). Well, but this year, the hate is pointed at the anti-abortion Republicans who are taking away people's rights (on Monday, Iowa's 6week ban goes into effect). And the fear is Project 2025. This is new for the Republicans.
This is now a generational election. The last generational election was Bill Clinton against George HW Bush. Generational elections remind the younger generation what is on the line. It is the future against the past. And, the younger generation is a sleeping giant. OUR younger generation was raised fearing nuclear missiles raining down on us and practiced hiding under our desks: an invisible bogeyman. THIS younger generation was raised fearing gunfire in their classroom; they had active-shooter-drills. Their bogeyman wasn't some invisible foreign threat; it was crazy-white-guys-with-guns. They aren't going to vote for the party of crazy white guys with guns.
ALL THE DYNAMICS ARE PRO-HARRIS.
Get excited. Get active. THIS IS YOUR ELECTION! Get to it!
