John Henry Trullinger was born in Centerville, just outside of Forest Grove, Oregon in 1870. In 1902 he decided to pursue a career as an artist and, together with his wife, traveled to England. In Penzance, Cornwall he studied at the Newlyn School of Art. Later, he continued his studies in Paris and in 1909 one of his paintings was accepted for exhibition the Le Salon for La Sociéte des Artistes Français. In 1910 he returned to Oregon. He produced over 1,000 paintings and drawings before his death in 1960. The Heritage Museum in Astoria, Oregon has a display of some of his paintings in a stairway (which makes it difficult to photograph).
