Harris and Biden know clean energy is essential for our future, and they are bringing it now!
Here are just a few of the many things they have already done to bring clean energy to this country!
Public lands were a big focus in April:
Biden-Harris Administration delivers historic milestones, new actions for clean energy on public lands
The Biden-Harris administration today announced a series of historic milestones and new actions to promote responsible clean energy development on public lands and to help achieve President Biden’s goal of creating a carbon pollution-free power sector by 2035.
Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland today announced that the Department has now permitted more than 25 gigawatts of clean energy projects — surpassing a major milestone ahead of 2025 — enough clean energy to power more than 12 million homes across the country. This includes solar, wind and geothermal projects, as well as generator lead or transmission lines on public lands that are essential for connecting clean electricity projects on both federal and non-federal land to the grid.
As Secretary Deb Haaland said:
Since Day One, the Biden-Harris administration has worked tirelessly to expand responsible clean energy development to address climate change, enhance America’s energy security and create good-paying union jobs. Surpassing our goal of permitting 25 gigawatts of clean energy by 2025 underscores the significant progress we have made in helping build modern, resilient climate infrastructure that protects our communities from the worsening impacts of climate change.
The Interior Department will continue to advance projects that will add enough clean energy to the grid to power millions more homes and help ensure a livable planet for future generations.
Renewables and EVs got a strong boost in April as well, to help fulfill the promise of the IRA:
Administration Moves to Speed Up Permits for Clean Energy
The Biden administration on Tuesday released rules designed to speed up permits for clean energy while requiring federal agencies to more heavily weigh damaging effects on the climate and on low-income communities before approving projects like highways and oil wells.
“These reforms will deliver smarter decisions, quicker permitting, and projects that are built better and faster,” said Brenda Mallory, chair of the council. “As we accelerate our clean energy future, we are also protecting communities from pollution and environmental harms that can result from poor planning and decision making while making sure we build projects in the right places.”
The rules announced Tuesday could help to more quickly carry out Mr. Biden’s signature climate law, the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, which includes at least $370 billion in tax incentives to expand renewable energy, such as wind and solar power, as well as electric vehicles. Analysts say it could be difficult to fully realize the benefits of the law if, say, the construction of transmission lines needed for renewable energy or electric vehicle charging stations is bogged down in the permitting process.
Energy efficiency projects were big winners nationwide in May:
Biden-Harris Administration Announces More Than $26 Million to 37 State, Local, and Tribal Governments to Support Clean Energy Projects
In support of President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced more than $26.9 million to nine states, 27 local governments and one Tribe for the next round of formula grants through the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, funded by the President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and managed by DOE’s Office of State and Community Energy Programs. Funds will be deployed to advance crucial clean energy and infrastructure upgrades by state governments, local governments, and Tribes to reduce energy use, curb fossil fuel emissions, and improve energy efficiency. Together with other DOE initiatives, this program will support communities in the nation’s clean energy transition and in meeting the President’s goal of a net-zero economy by 2050.
“Energy efficient upgrades are a surefire way to bring down costs and shore up resiliency for communities across the nation,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. “President Biden’s Investing in America agenda is equipping local governments with funds to transform clean energy plans into real actions that deliver benefits in every corner of the country.”
And a pilot program will make $$ savings from solar power available to those who need it most:
Biden-Harris Administration Launches Clean Energy Connector to Bring Nearly $15 Million in Annual Energy Savings To Up To 40,000 Low-Income Households
Today, the Biden-Harris Administration, through a partnership between the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), launched the pilot of the Clean Energy Connector, a tool that connects families to solar energy through HHS’ Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The first-of-its-kind software can now be used by local LIHEAP program administrators in Illinois, Washington, D.C., and New Mexico to connect community solar subscriptions to as many as 40,000 households with low incomes.
Connecting LIHEAP-eligible households with community solar subscriptions will lower energy bills for families, increase access to clean energy among underserved communities, and increase equitable solar energy deployment, in support of President Biden’s ambitious clean energy and Justice40 goals.
“Renewable energy is by far the cheapest form of power and now, thanks to innovative solutions developed under the Biden-Harris Administration, more households across America can access the health and savings that solar power provides,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm.
These are just a few examples of the hundreds of ways that Harris and Biden have been bringing affordable clean energy to America.
