Legendary film actor Anthony Hopkins — formerly Sir Anthony Hopkins — is a native of the United Kingdom who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1993. In 2000, however, he renounced his UK citizenship and his knighthood to become exclusively a United States citizen, and now lives in Malibu, California.
Hannibal Lecter is a fictional character portrayed most famously by Hopkins in a series of films beginning with The Silence of the Lambs in 1991. Shit-for-brains Donald Trump, however, seems to think that Hannibal Lecter is a real person, that Lecter and the actor who portrayed him are one and the same, and that this actor loves Donald Trump.
Hannibal Lecter. How great an actor was he? You know why I like him? Because he said on television on an — one of the — “I love Donald Trump!”
Again, someone should tell Donald Trump that Hannibal Lecter is not an actor, but a fictional character portrayed most famously by Anthony Hopkins, who does not appear to have ever said that he loves Donald Trump. Why would he? Anthony Hopkins is an intelligent, talented man; and intelligent, talented people do not love Donald Trump. Also, “the late, great Hannibal Lecter,” as Trump calls him, has never died in any novel, film, or TV series in which he has appeared; and Anthony Hopkins is very much alive, so neither the actor nor his character is the “late” Hannibal Lecter. Furthermore, in a recent interview with Deadline, Hopkins said that he was “shocked and appalled” at Donald Trump’s use of Hannibal Lecter in his campaign speeches. Hopkins does not appear to have paid any attention to Trump’s speeches, since he was completely unaware of Trump’s use of his character:
DEADLINE: I have to mention your one of your greatest characters, Hannibal Lecter…
HOPKINS: Why?
DEADLINE: Because he’s come up a lot during this election campaign here in America with Donald Trump speaking about him at his rallies as if he’s a real person.
HOPKINS: As if he is real?
DEADLINE: Yes.
HOPKINS: [Laughs] I didn’t know that. [Laughs again.] Hannibal, that’s a long time ago that movie. God, that was over 30 years ago. I’m shocked and appalled what you’ve told me about Trump.
DEADLINE: Sorry about that.
I don’t know if Anthony Hopkins plans to vote in the 2024 election, but if he does, it seems unlikely that he would vote for Donald Trump. I certainly hope that Hopkins votes for Kamala Harris. Even better would be if he were to also appear in an ad for the Harris campaign or the Lincoln Project, explain for Trump the facts about Hannibal Lecter, and make a bad day for Trump even worse.
