Last weekend, Trump said the quiet part out loud, that there will be no more elections after this one. I still cannot believe that we are at this point in our democracy. The television media is silent about his statements. Clearly, this is not a normal election. And that is why I put my name in the state house race clear across Florida. I had the opportunity to help fill every race with a Democrat. We set a record! And then, Vice President Harris became our nominee for President! The Villages exploded with Democrats!
When I ran the last time 2020, as I described in Daily Kos, I started out as a voice for the voiceless; the animals, native plants upon which manatees graze, and the water habitats in which they live. It seemed so shocking, selfish and uncaring that the Florida Republican supermajority would not be responsible leaders. This situation has evolved 0 percent since then, but constitutional and political issues have changed.
In the 4 years since then, I watched as we Floridians continued to be stripped of our voices in government. As Floridians know, who have taken the time to go to city and county hearings and meetings about our own communities, and to Tallahassee for our water quality, we the people are now also voiceless. And this is tragic. It is un-Constitutional! The supermajority must go! Now, more than ever, we must unite to fight against the MAGA and DeSantis. He continues to betray our basic safety, our public health and our quality of life. One example is his new law that no signs will be placed at beaches with fecal matter in the water. In laymen’s terms, that is poop.
On the national stage, Trump is attacking our democracy left and right. The MAGA and he are beginning to implement arcane voting rules to stop people from voting. They are already replacing people in such positions to get ready to contest this election, should Trump not win. This is Project 2025 in action. We must rally around Vice President Harris to win in large numbers. Women’s reproductive freedoms and healthcare are on the line. Everything that we hold dear is on the line.
My opponent is MAGA Toby Overdorf, so called Environmentalist with a score of F from the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida. To women, he is derogatory and misogynistic. Moreover, he has a large Heritage Foundation backing, meaning he is clearly for Project 2025! So, he must be replaced. I am excited to be that candidate!
