I do not write diaries often, but a number of people asked me to write this diary, which started as a comment, so here we are.
I, unlike almost everyone on this site as far as I can tell, WAS ON THE RIGHT, for quite some time. I was AT “Jesus 77” in Valley Forge PA when a younger Pat Robertson talked to 50,000 people about how everyone had to work to take over the Republican party. People from my (at the time) denomination were AT the Glen Eyrie (I think I got that spelling right, its been a long time) conference. People I know (or knew) donated to the Family (now the Fellowship, I believe).
I have warned, ever since I switched sides when I was 33, what they wanted, what they were willing to do, and what their plans were. I have been consistently pooh poohed by educated liberals, and I have not been wrong once — something that just recently someone admitted to me out of the clear blue.
- In the very early 90s, when I warned rich liberal friends that the Religious Right was close to taking over the entire mechanism of the GOP and told them exactly what that would do — I was told that I was being hysteric and it would never happen — it happened.
- In 2000 I told a room full of strategists at Hillary’s upstate HQ, where we had donated all the computers and I was attempting to keep a very quirky wired network functional, while they were discussing how we were going to lose the popular vote but Gore might eke out an EC win that we would win the popular vote, and that the danger was Florida, which they were counting (and these were GORE’s strategists) as a given. One of them had the decency to get my number from the office manager after the voting and ask me how I knew. I knew because I never got lost in either the bubble of politics or the liberal haze.
- Later, literally on the day of the Bush v. Gore decision I was with wealthy liberal friends in NYC and the father of the host family asked a friend, a young lawyer, what would happen and he assured them that the court would never rule against the recount, it would damage their legacy, it wouldn’t happen. Being polite the father asked me what I thought. I told them bluntly that the court would rule in Bush’s favor because they didn’t give a damn about their legacy, only winning. My friend (still one of my closest friends) told me I had been too influenced by my earlier experience on the Right and it wouldn’t happen. Twenty minutes later his fiancée (now wife) called hysteric from where she was working on her dissertation. He was speechless for the longest period of time I’ve ever known him to be.
- I wrote on this site about the dangers of dominionism in 2016, early in the primaries, and I still believe that Cruz winning would have been MUCH worse for everyone, because he’s competent and evil, rather than a blowhard. He is of course, a Dominionist.
I’ve read Project 2025 and you should too — its long but revealing. I tell you now, if Trump wins and has either a compliant Congress OR an obedient military, that document will come true. It is what the GOP wants. They will do everything they can to put him in power.
Let me tell you what I want. I want to be allowed to live out my remaining years. I want to preserve American democracy. I want my husband to be safe — although if I see the goosesteppers coming, I’ll send him back home to the Philippines. I think they will ignore that place, and even the Chinese are less dangerous that what may come here.
Literally nothing matters except victory, because victory is the only thing that gives us a chance.
Will the GOP sue if we switch candidates, particularly to keep our new candidate off the ballot in several states? Yes. Will the SCOTUS rule in their favor? After the last few months how can you ask? Yes, they will. Anything that wakes people up and get’s them back to dealing with reality rather than the fantasies of the MSM and others that want nothing but ill for us is worth it — because this is literally an existential danger.
The polls did not move against Biden after all the media hysteria and all the pundits. That is because the people writing that commentary and breathlessly delivering it are not regular people, they are in that liberal haze or that political bubble that I mentioned, and they forget, there aren’t many who are — even among groups like those here.
Trump has his ~20%, and he usually absorbs the other Republican and Right leaning voters. Biden has the liberals, the Democrats and the saner parts of the “true Left.” Even most of those groups don’t follow politics most of the time. The middle, which according to issues studies leans Left/liberal and mostly doesn’t know it? They don’t normally pay attention until two weeks before an election, if then.
The debate actually gave Biden a boost in the Midwest and among Hispanics, according to both focus groups and polling. Why? Because people actually saw Trump. They heard him lie, people who normally discount what the media says as false. They saw him bully. The GOP screwed themselves by telling people for months that Biden was senile. That was ALREADY baked into the numbers that existed, but Trump being what folk like us know Trump is? THAT was not baked in. Despite Biden not being able to do what we hoped, his debate strategy still worked by showing Trump up, exactly as he is.
Biden will almost certainly beat Trump again, and as the head of Heritage made clear, there will be violence. He made that clear when he actually outright threatened the Left if they dared oppose him and his. We need to be prepared for that, we need to carry Biden to victory and weather the storm of darkness, after which, they will return to their hiding places for a generation. Harris will probably not beat Trump, and polling shows no one else with a chance — even before they face the lack of funding they will start with.
If Trump wins, against anyone, you know what is coming, if you read Project 2025. All of us will suffer. Further, I truly believe that the jackboots will come. The actual congregations comprising the Religious Right have approximately half as many seats filled now as they did when Robertson gave that speech. They are shrinking as a percentage and in real numbers. They have, at most two more, and I think one more cycle where they have real influence on the GOP. They are all in. People look for consistency, there is none, it is all for power — and if they get the power they crave — women? gay people? Hispanic people? Asian people? Especially Black people? Trans people? Other religions, even other forms of Christianity? They become the new underclass, to be ground into the dirt, to be, I fear to say it, imprisoned, or even killed. The choice is backing Biden, or that. For me there is no trouble making that decision.
Now, don’t hold back, tell me I’m hysteric (I am gay, so I guess its par for the course to be called hysteric) and wrong and that it will never happen - but it will, while we are all so politely disagreeing with one another over something where disagreement is not only futile but uncalled for if you just look at reality. If we keep at this, then come November 6th there will be laughter, and it won't be from us.
