The President is not King-a constitutional amendment

I watched about 10 minutes of the debate, until dismay turned to dread and I had to switch it off. And every day since I’ve hoped that some strong plan would emerge and re-energize the supporters of democracy.

Biden isn’t quitting, and I personally agree that the arguments for quit are weaker than the arguments for stay.

But i am strongly persuaded that if Biden is our message we lose. And running on ‘yeah we totally want to save democracy and solve the major problems Americans are dealing with but Republicans won’t let us’ is somehow worse.

Why not take a page from Newt Gingrich’s contract with America and make 2024 about the elephant in the room.

The President should not be king. With the Supreme Court possibly lost for a generation the only way to shrink their judicial will to power until it is small enough to drown in a bathtub is to go over their heads and amend the constitution.

Of course that will take years to achieve but that isn’t the point. We, and by we I mean every friend of democracy, can run on doing that and we can go into November fighting for something most Americans believe in strongly enough to be with us. It would unite our side and peel off the rest of what we used to think of as Republicans.

Strong actions that give people hope will work. Maybe not this, exactly, but why not? It would change the conversation completely.
