Boy how the mighty have fallen! Unfortunately since screen addiction has basically destroyed print media, it has so lowered the bar for honesty, integrity and fact checking in today’s journalism. However the most important problem that we face in that regard is the lack of editors. You see I’m old, so I remember when the news wasn’t 24/7/365. I remember when there were thousands of newspapers all over the country, urban, regional and rural and the one thing they all had in common was they had an editor or a board of editors. I remember that these editors had an important job which was to ensure that they reported the news truthfully and without bias ( who, what, where, when and how) to the public and that tenet was always held sacred by them and their journalists. Granted, many were labeled right ,left or moderate and many of them were one of those. Being from NY back in the day the Times was left , the Post was right and the Daily News was moderate but the difference was they all had an op-ed page which really doesn’t exist in today’s digital age. When you had to wait a day to report the news and your opinions it gave you time to think about what to say. Sadly that’s pretty much gone now. Most of the shit that’s spouted out by the media today would’ve gotten a lot of so called journalists fired by their editors that no longer exist
